Side effects from booster shot
Comments (38)Carol, I prefer never having to use text for anything, if there are other options, and the VAERS site did say that they recommended that people use desktop or laptop computers rather than phones or tablets. The PDF form that I downloaded seemed a bit buggy, as it kept telling me that certain questions were ESSENTIAL even after I had answered them fully. I had all the info on my vaccination, including the lot numbers for the Moderna, although I do not have that for the Pfizer. I might not bother reporting the Pfizer incident, but I did report it to my doctor, and he thanked me for that. I do think that it is important that reactions to the vaccines get logged, so that if other people have them, they will know that they are not the only ones. I did feel some validation when I read about other people having the same reactions that I did to both vaccines, and I do believe that the reactions I had are relatively rare. I do feel a lot better knowing that I have had the booster, and at least I'm not losing sleep!...See MoreBursitis after booster
Comments (29)Oh my gosh. You know, I have been thinking of this ever since this past March when I was getting the vaccinations. My left ankle swelled up - larger than usual. Then I began having MUCH more pain in it, so much I could barely walk on it some days. I used Aspercreme and Tylenol. Finally I made an appt. with my doctor who looked at it and said, "That ankle looks almost deformed". "Do you think this could have been caused by the vaccination shots?" He said no. He suggested a cyst behind it. Referred me to a foot and ankle clinic. That doctor though perhaps a cyst also, spoke about needles to drain and maybe surgery. I waited. Some weeks later, made another appt. at the clinic and was seen by a different foot and ankle doctor and he took xrays and pronounced very bad arthritis. Now I see on the right side of this page, a photo of a man with "elbow bursitis" - that bump! That's what my ankle looks like. One more thing, yesterday while waiting in my car in a parking lot for a store to open, I see a lady hobbling across the lot just like I do! I almost ran (well, try to) after her to ask if she had been vaccinated!...See MoreBob Wachter, UCSF Dept. of Medicine Chair, on boosters
Comments (69)At this point, probably everyone is going to get omicron eventually, I’d say most of us even multiple times - asymptomatically or not, it’s just that contagious. Previous infection, vaccines and even booster probably won’t keep the virus out of your body. So we are getting to endemic which was the only real outcome for Covid as of delta. It will likely always be around, and seasonal. Now that most people are immune experienced (the easy way or the hard way) the severity has gone way down for those who have immunity, so we are edging closer to the common cold experience - although not there yet especially for the elderly. What we do know is that vaccine and boost has an enormous effect on disease severity. Most recent data from Texas below. Previous infection with delta confers about a 56% protection against (symptomatic) omicron and 88% protection against hospitalization according to a recent Qatar study. This is comparable to booster numbers (57% and 90%). If your infection or your last dose of vaccine was more than 6 months ago I’d go looking for a top up....See MoreGot newest booster--anyone else?
Comments (106)I got my Pfizer bivalent vaccination about a week ago and had no reaction whatsoever. An acquaintance is retired and works part-time in a store with a lot of customer interfacing routinely many times a day. Nobody wears a mask there at that market and she stopped wearing a mask. She had Covid a year ago. She had the 4 vaccinations/boosters but had not yet received the bivalent vaccination because somebody (a doctor and a pharmacist, she said) told her she had to wait six months after the last booster. That was wrong information. You don’t really have to wait that long and can have the new formulation within a couple of months of either having Covid or a vaccination (booster). You do not have to wait six months so don’t buy that line of malarkey. I think the confusion stems from some people (lay and professional) believing that the conferred immunity lasts longer than it in fact does. Immunity after having the virus or a booster (vaccination) begins to wane rather quickly. And in some people doesn’t last very long at all. Last week my acuaintance came down with a fever of 101 Deg F, congestion and a horrible cough. She home tested positive for COVID-19. So she probably has a new variant, BA5/4. Again she has a lot of close contact with many different people from all walks of life pretty much. The more people you’re in contact with and close areas, indoors especially, the greater is your opportunity to come into contact with the virus. The newer strains of the Covid-19 virus are more transmissible than the older delta....See More- 4 years agolast modified: 4 years ago
