Showers from The Onyx Collection?

A few years ago Lowe's carried sinks and showers from The Onyx Collection. We installed a home full of sinks and love them. Now we're building new, and I can't find vendors that offer that brand. Does anyone know of similar products or what happened to The Onyx brand? I believe they were built in Kansas and we had excellent input from the factory as our sinks were being constructed. Would like to use them for sinks as well as shower walls, rather than go tiled. Has anyone done that--used solid walls rather than tiled? Thank you!

If you google Onyx collection there are lots of dealers in the US so not sure what that issue is . As for wall panels in showers there are many places to get those. Pocelanosa makes really beautiful ones.

definitely look for dealers on their very user friendly and detailed website onyxcollection.com. Some dealers have sample shower displays at a showroom and some dealers are contractors that just will sell the materials to you or also install. You can get sample color chips (about 2"x3") sent to you for free.

I was ready to order a shower pan and walls, and a sink for a vanity, but as of January 2022, they no longer sell the matte finish. I'm not sure how I feel about the glossy finish. I may go with Onyx anyway, since they seem to have a bigger selection of standard shower pans and I prefer the low profile base.

The gloss finish on Onyx Collection products is a very high grade polyester gel coat. The gel coat is applied to the molds and then the product is cast in afterwords creating a bond that will last forever (also stated in their guarantee). As for the matte finish. It has more of a dull or corian finish that is essentially the same process except the finish is sanded off (product is still sealed). The matte finish (a little more expensive with less color options) will show less water spots but as stated before the maintenance and cleaning of this product (both gloss and matte) is exceptionally easy! Onyx Collection vs Cultured Marble for Vanity Tops?

Interesting, I too am considering one of these cultured marble or onyx vanity tops. But they puzzle me. At my work they redid the ladies rooms a few years ago. One got laminate, others what I believe is cultured granite. I thought it was some sort of shiny corian (or similar) at first, then came across a display in Home Depot made by US Marble that looks identical. The reason I'm considering it is how well it's held up with dozens of people using it every day. It really does look nice. The laminate top on the other hand is totally de-laminating. (Not that I was considering that...just saying) I'm puzzled because it appears to be a plastic impregnated with marble dust and the underside is unfinished. In my old MBR we have what I always called a "cultured marble" vanity/sink top. Mine is almost like china. Like a bathtub. Only beige swirled white 'marble'. It's glazed on both sides. If you open the cabinet you see a smooth porcelain-like sink bottom. Not so with these other cultured marble sinks at work and in HD? They look like foam blown into a mold underneath. Or resin. Have they changed how cultured marble is made over the years? Was it different decades ago? The 2 materials seem totally different. Or did they make total china vanity tops with integrated sinks years ago? Also, my home counter is very cold to the touch. The work/HD counters are warm, like plastic. Any thoughts?

Onyx Collection for shower floor?

People have been very happy with their walls in the onyx, or similar products. Very happy. I wipe down my total shower daily after the last shower. It Keeps it pristine. People have heard this before in the forum, but I use a 20x40 microfiber fluffy auto detailing towel for this. I have not had to "clean" my shower in 3 years, except for the shower pan which I don't wipe down daily. I make sure that the caulked change of planes are dry when I wipe down. No pink mold, ever. My walls are tile and my floor is cast iron.

So if the manufacturer told you what to do, repeatedly, why on earth dedicate a post looking for second opinions for second guessing? The manufacturer’s instructions rule. As does knowledge and experience. Read Lstiburek’s Building Science if you want a better education on why not to do a lot of what you have done.

There are lots of Onyx Collection products in my area. I have an Onyx shower.

I’m in Missouri and I know for certain that the Sutherland’s Lumberyard in Sedalia carries Onyx. There are lots of Sutherland’s throughout the midwest.

What did you decide to go with? The closest Onyx Collection dealer to me is 1 hr and 15 mins away, but they had displays that I could see and feel. I am not super crazy about the glossy finish, but I feel like it's a quality product, and there is good customer service. I absolutely do not want tile for a number of reasons, and the Onyx Collection had more standard sizes and color options so I'm taking the plunge and having a shower and vanity/sink top installed.
