Garbage Disposal Recommendations
Comments (2)That badger line is a more competitive line. I don't know if it was some deal with the large retail store or what, but I always steer customers in a different direction. Insinkerator offers a PRO C/C (cover control), at least it used to be PRO may be called evolution c/c now, which will outperform the badger. It will have a better warranty etc. The badger should have some warranty on it, depending on the age I would reach out to insinkerator and see what they say. Maybe you can work something out, like paying the difference for the pro/evolution c/c. Here is a link that might be useful: Insinkerator disposers...See More30 or 36' sink cabinet? Comments (5)Blanco has a couple of great silgranit sinks with offset drains. One is offset to the middle back, and one is offset to the corner in back. I love silgranit sinks. They never get water spots like stainless. They are quieter than stainless. They don't scratch like cast iron. Do a search at the bottom of the page for granite sinks, or silgranite, or silgranit. They are really fab! Oh, and pretty too with several colors available. The one I'm planning is the Precis with the middle back drain. It has a quilted bottom so water drains easier. I can't remember the name of the other, but if you go to faucet direct.com and use their filter search you should find them both....See MoreGarbage Disposals - Any Recommendations
Comments (17)OneRidgeOff - Well for me, it's either garbage disposal or throwing it out in the trash since I have no place to compost nor would I have anything to do with the compost - might as well recommend my getting an outhouse for my balcony :-) ETA - I know you weren't recommending that I have a compost heap but merely letting the poster know that composting was not an option :-) I feel lucky to have carved out just enough space for a trash roll out below the sink when I finish my remodel. I have a trash can now in my current galley (or did before my demo started this week - Hurray!!! but that was horrendously inconvenient because the only place for it was in front of my only cabinet with drawers so I had to move it every time I needed something from the drawers. :-( Paper/plastic and other recyclables I carry down to the lobby level where there is a recycling dumpster. Thanks for the recommendations to all. I have read that Waste King makes a good disposal but I have had Insinkerators for as long as I could install (they were prohibited in New York City until fairly recently) and they performed extremely well and lasted so why potentially hex myself by changing :-)...See MoreGarbage disposal or not?
Comments (15)Thank you all for the advice. I think as most suggested I'll get the basic disposals. They don't cost much more than the drain/strainer that I'll need if I don't get the disposals. Mrs. Pete, we've already ordered the cabinets with 2 sink bases and the plumbing/electrical are roughed-in, so it might actually cost us more at this point to lose a sink. My original plan was an extra-large workstation sink, but folks on the kitchen board talked me into 2 sinks. I'm glad they did because I think the work flow/zones are much nicer w/ 2 sinks. Since I just plan to use them for the bits of cereal residue mentioned above I thought, $600 was a major splurge. I think I'll do as others suggest and just get the basic disposal. They don't cost much more than the drain/strainer. 2manydiversions, I thought I was the only one that hates getting the "ick" out of the sink. LOL. I had convinced myself that that was a petty reason for spending $600 on disposals. Most legit studies show that septic tank additives (enzymes in this case) have no effect on the functioning of the system. This entire "Septic Assist" concept is bogus. Jake, this was my understanding too. I just thought I'd post here to get others opinions in case I missed a more current study. I do think the double grinder would help with a septic system, since it would take less time for smaller particles to breakdown, but I don't plan on using it for big stuff anyway....See MoreUser
