What color or colors will the walls be painted?

How separate are the rooms? It looks like one big room in the photo. It can certainly be configured into multiple functional areas, but I don't see a lot of natural places to break wall paint color.

For my house, I picked a palette for the public rooms of the house (chocolate brown, yellow-green, and robin's egg blue) and then varied them across rooms (blue walls in the LR, brown in the DR, and green in the kitchen; other elements pull in the other colors in each room).

There are lots of colors to work with in that artwork. I put together some palettes pulling from the art, using a 60-30-10 breakout (a good interior design rule of thumb). This assumes you are serious about color...

Looking at your artwork inspiration, consider doing fireplace the dark grey and the walls the light grey. Then knock yourself out with using the other colors for accents in each space, (window treatments, rugs, furniture, etc.). The colors are beautiful!

I really do like some of those color palettes: I am VERY serious about color. The stager for my house that I just sold walked in and said “looks like we have a lot of work to do here.” It was the proudest moment of my life. 😂

I attempt the 60/30/10 rule when possible. Would you say in the case of the dining room and living room that the fireplace would comprise the 30%? And probably just 10% of the office area?

I love the idea of navy, I’m just concerned that the massive size of the fireplace will make it feel like a dark void in the center of the room. A gray blue/ slate color has also been on my radar, but I don’t want to pick the wrong shade and end up with a country blue. Any specific company/shade recommendations for a medium to dark slate blue?

The walls in the living room and dining room will have to match, but there is separation in the office and it can be its own color. Here is one pic showing the angle looking into the office and two of the living room space. The fireplace will be very visible through the front window, so I’m considering that too. My front porch is already a dark blue.

I think this is to be a personal choice for you. If you Google "fireplace in center of room", you will see that most, if not all, fireplaces are painted the same color as the walls in the room. The idea is to have the huge interruption of space (the fireplace) disappear. The exception is a natural brick or stone fireplace.

Since you are set on doing a color, either paint your walls the same color as the fireplace, or go with a lighter color taken from nature. The suggested gray could work, but I would go lighter in shade.

I was thinking the fireplace would be the 30%,when I made the palettes though depending on how you mixed colors, a sofa + other upholstered pieces + drapes could maybe add up to more visual area. It's probably best not to be too literal about the percents.

I don't know what the pros do or think, but I apply the 60-30-10 rule within a room. So for the office you could do the same colors but reverse the non-fireplace colors in proportion.

It's too bad you aren't interested in redoing the fireplace w/tile. (when that fireplace was built, it was built w/a wall. leaving it as is is not the best design choice. It's very heavy and bulky looking in the middle of the room. Let me show you some options that you may not have considered.)

I would copy this in a heartbeat. trimming off the sides, creating more of a flat front,, makes it a focal point but not in a over-powering way.

you mentioned a slate/blue-gray. You could do this tile on the lower portion, or the entire thing. it's stunning

Bring in your color w/art, or a bright sofa, pillows, etc.

If you like the white brick, consider getting a solid beam for the mantle and try decorating it like these photos

You could get some thick basalt tiles and do those for your hearth (or a remnant black granite piece)

you could even close off one side, or, do an attached built in shelving (similar to this) on one side.

another alternative, you can stucco or use a roman clay right over the brick and paint. around the hearth do a cement overlay and polish until the aggregate comes through.

I’m not sure what you mean when you say the fireplace was “built with a wall.” There were never any walls on the sides of the fireplace, there were just little room divider features to create “rooms” on either side. The seller removed the one on the left but not the one on the right you can see in the photo. There are planters on either side of the hearth too.

I am not wanting to do tile because this is only one part of a $100,000+ remodel. You have to stop somewhere! Lol. I also don’t want to add more girth to the already large fireplace, even a tile thickness. I’m fine with the brick look, I just want to make sure my color choice enhances it rather than making it a challenge to work with.

I do hope to eventually get a heftier mantle as you mentioned, I agree that would make a big difference. And that black fireplace is beautiful!

I have plenty of my own ideas for decor, that’s rarely a challenge. This color choice is really stumping me for some reason.
