Flooring Design Dilemma

What color floor with Saltillo tile and wood ceiling?

We are replacing the laminate in the living room to LVT or wood-look tile and think we would like something lighter. It is very dusty where we live and the dark color shows the dust and dog hair.

The dilemma is that the ceiling is all wood with exposed beams and the tile throughout the rest of this level is rusty orange saltillo (kicking myself because I didnt snao a picture that includes the tile) We don’t to match the floor to the wood ceiling because we feel that would be too orange throughout.

Suggestions? Is a white oak a good choice?

OMG, how beautiful! normally I don't go for rustic floors, but this house is perfect for it! light oak with a very slightly whitewashed / greyish tone rather than amber, and just a little distressed. like the "beachy" look. this is a trendy flooring that might be fleeting in popularity, but I think might come across as timeless in your southwest home. the distressed finish will be a nice bonus -- if you scratch it, it'll seem intentional!

I grew up in NM and have seen many historic homes all around that area. I think a greyer distressed floor would look pretty authentic.

or, if you went for more of a warm oak, I think that would be ok too. but if you can, try to get something more matte and/or a little distressed looking. (not too distressed, which can look obvous and be overdone.)

The grout is a dark, dark grey. We will paint the walls & baseboards so we are wide open with color scheme. Our furniture is more on the dark walnut or mahogany side. I found Behr "light incense" paint which I really like and looks good with the tile (although the online version looks nothing like the paint sample), cream color for the baseboards. We are leaning toward a desaturated "french cream" slightly patterned berber carpet. It's not too yellow and has enough magenta in it to give a warmer feeling to pick up from the tile. We are in AZ and a lot of people here do the saturated western colors. Personnaly, I like having walls more of an accent to my furnishings.

I have Saltillo floors and will have light gray painted cabinets. After much searching I have chosen Tan Brown granite because it has a combination of gray, cream, and the clay Saltillo color on a black background without being too sleek like a black counter would look. The backsplash will be slate. Best to avoid anything that looks too rustic. I would not do a matching tile on the counter, that would be way too much red for me. Grays seem to work with the tile really well.

Love your inspiration photos and the gorgeous saltillo kitchens here! I have a saltillo-lookalike porcelain tile floor. (My floor is probably on the red side with less of the orange/peach tones). I think a creamy white cab color would look gorgeous with the tile. That was something I'd planned to do if I'd stayed in my house. My paint color is Valspar (Lowe's) Epic which reads khaki or earthy green or taupe depending on the light. It's a great warm, interesting neutral. A couple of photos (sorry for the poor quality...they're from the phone). It's an overcast day so little natural light. First shows wall color with floor. Second photo shows wall color with white.

I think you can use wood like your ceiling, but I wouldn't use laminate. Get solid wood steps, stained to match your ceiling, and paint the risers your stair trim color. Saltillo tile goes great with wood. Removing the carpet keeps the stairs clean and simple. If you're planning to add a runner though, just put in carpet. It makes no sense to change the stairs to laminate just to put the runner over it.
