Convert In Wall Oven and Microwave Combo to Separate Units

Hello:

I live in a 15 year old home which came with a In Wall Microwave and Oven Combo installed in our Kitchen Cabinet. Two years ago the Microwave failed. When I had a technician look at it he said that we need to replace the whole unit. Instead of doing that I bought a over the counter microwave and started using it.

Now I am thinking of replacing the whole unit, if I buy and install another Combo Unit, if one of them goes bad then I have to replace the Whole unit as a combo. Instead I am thinking of removing the In Wall Microwave & Oven Combo, and then make the Cabinet space as 2 separate Shelves top one to hold a Microwave and the bottom one to hold the in wall oven. This way I can get a In Wall Microwave Separately and a in wall oven separately and install them and if one of them fails and need to be replaced I can replace the one that failed and not worry about replacing the entire combo unit.

Is this possible to do? Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Anand.
