How wide is the gap going to be? Maybe you could remove just the outer ring of tiles from around your entire kitchen and replace those with a contrasting or coordinating border of new tiles. That way you could carry the new tiles right up to the edge of the new oven and it wouldn't look like a patch job. There are all sorts of lovely listello and border tiles out there. I'm sure you could find something that would look great with your existing tile. Below is a link picture I found on where someone put in a border of different tiles in their kitchen. I used to have all kinds of plastic storage containers...from Tupperware to Rubbermaid to Glad/Ziploc to plastic ice cream containers w/lids I saved. When I packed up the kitchen, I get rid of all the containers with missing lids and lids with missing containers as well as the "ice cream container" types. That left me with mostly Tupperware & Rubbermaid. I still had two 33" deep drawers worth when I put our kitchen back together. It was OK then when I had an "extra" drawer, but now that I need that drawer for my Gluten-free-foods-only toaster, waffle iron, and a few other tools, I again went through what I had and got rid of just about everything except the Tupperware. I did save the big Rubbermaid containers for Christmas cookies once a year, but they're packed away the rest of the year. So now I'm down to older Tupperware plus the newer ones that have expanding tops (I really like those!) I have also replaced some of the old plastics with glass Pyrex dishes b/c I can use them in my MW, Trivection, and regular ovens. I've become wary of using plastic in the MW lately...regardless of BPA content. I just ordered Tupperware for my pantry (Modular Mates that are on sale through this week). I agree with Guppy_2009 and will leave those containers in the pantry even when they're empty.

What I would do is remove the drawer & door. Then cut the rail away from the stiles on both sides. On the left side, pocket screw & glue a vertical piece of wood to the left hand stile (scrape paint for the glue to bond) to increase the width of the stile, wide enough to allow a new (narrower & taller) replacement door to swing open. You will lose a drawer and the opening will be smaller but you'll still have better access to that blind corner cabinet. You could opt to keep the drawer in which case you'd not cut away the rail and use two vertical attachments to the stile for a more narrow replacement door & drawer. Finding an exact match for the door will be tough. If you know the cabinet brand, check to see if you can get a new door in the dimensions that you need for the altered cab. Or maybe you can have a cabinet shop build one. Otherwise, you could just go with a raised panel door for a close but not exact match. Paint all the new stuff to match. Another option might be to use a shutter for the replacement door...perhaps one of those old style shutters that had fabric inserts. Or just a fabric skirt to cover the opening

Thank you all for weighing in on this decision. I read each and every comment and you gave me a lot to think about! We ended up going to Bargain Outlet tonight to order different countertop. The Soapstone Sequoia tops that we bought ended up not being long enough (Big oops) and they won't work in the final layout that we settled on. When we changed from a range to a cooktop, we could no longer do the cut for the range, and it threw our measurements off. Somehow we missed that little detail until today until we set the counter on the cabinets and realized it was 6" short. : P (Must have been DIY dilirium.) But...we think it might have worked out for the best. We had bought the counters months ago when a local store was going out of business, and then more recently we got the cabinets. Seeing them together showed us that while they could work, they weren't a super match for each other. When we picked up the cabinets, they came with a few small sections of Bella Noche laminate, and they looked great together. Since we were going to have to order counter anyway, we switched directions and ordered Bella Noche instead. We never would have picked it from the little sample cards, but seeing the remnants with our cabinets helped us to know that we'd like it. While we were at Bargain Outlet, we ordered a 30" wide x 18" tall wall cabinet to place under the short wall cabinet in our layout. Our plan is to leave the doors off of it so that I can have a little bit of open shelving, but it will be boxed in along the side of the range hood like many of you suggested. Playing around with the shelf last night made me realize I could have a lot of fun with an open area there to decorate. We also ordered a glass door for the corner upper to help it feel airier over there om the sea of uppers, and it will give us another spot for displaying pretty serving bowls, too. Colors for the oven cabinet, hood and island remain to be determined. I don't really want to paint all of the uppers at this point. We have a busy family that the factory finish will probably handle better than a home paint job. Maybe someday, though! Now I have to see what colors look nice with both the cabinets and the new laminate. Should I keep it simple and do black? (Our fridge is black... and the cabinet doors have black lines along the details of the trim.) There are flecks of dark blue in this laminate too, although it's hard to see in the sample online.
