I put a high quality, floating floor in my apt kitchen in NYC to help with pet wear and tear. NOT the best option. If one piece needs to be replaced (and with pet accidents it bubbles very easily), you have to undo a whole section because they are interlocked. Also, they just don't look that great, no matter what we paid. So when it came time to make the rest of the apt floor look decent, we switched to vinyl planks from Lowes. Sounds gross, but they're actually amazing looking. Our apt was built in the 1880's, (the original floor was long destroyed and removed before we got it),and I found a dark gunstock in a wider cut that almost matched our neighbor's original floor exactly. You ready for this? 98 cents a sq foot! If one gets damaged you peel it off (with some effort) and put a replacement. Echoflooring is sooo right about batch colors. Get it all at once and mix up the boxes as you lay it. We have a bunch of mixed ones for replacement and haven't used one, not one, but I know we have them. Lowes will recommend their sealer,but we didn't use it. They self stick just fine. One or two spots came up after we were first done and someone on line told us to use a hairdryer to reheat it and lay a book on top overnight. Worked like a dream. Our apt in NY is 800 sq ft and our current tenant is a photographer with two rescue cats and she loves the floor. Even with her keen eye, we had to tell her they were vinyl and how to replace it if she had a pet accident. She was blown away! I will try to post a picture of our NY apt floor for you. To be fair to our tenant the photographer, I took the horrible quality pics w my cell, not her! LOL! Choose wisely for your space and go with your fave, not what everyone says you should do, incl me. We are using a glue down Mannington vinyl in an office remodel on a slab. Our cabinets will go over the vinyl. This thread scared me so I called my flooring company just now. She said that the cabinets should go over the flooring as planned unless it is a floating floor which ours is not. She told me Tarkett Transcend is a floating floor. Do not put cabinets over this.

I would ask why such a steep price for installation. Ask which order the kitchen will be put back together. A small room installation cost could work out because they use a "day" wage for small projects. I've heard of minimum charges of 1/2 day of work or 1 full day of work regardless of how long it takes. But I'm suspicious of this because the installer has MANY other things going on (or so I believe by your post). A person who is redoing someone's kitchen will often give a little so they can gain the entire project. The small space install only works if the ONLY THING s/he's doing is installing. And I never buy the 'nothing else needs doing' jazz. A sheet vinyl floor can have some WONKY substrates underneath (can look like a roller coaster ride). Sheet materials are VERY forgiving. A plank vinyl is NOT forgiving...at all. In fact, a poorly prepared substrate is GUARANTEED to void your warranty. And I mean 99.3% of the time the lack of prep is going to void your warranty IMMEDIATELY (before he leaves for home). I think you have some conversations coming up in the next few days. And to be clear for us, is this the SAME person who is doing the ENTIRE renovation?

Hi Beth. I know that if you do a search for 'Coretec flooring' or 'Coretec LVP' in discussions you'll find a lot of threads; a recent discussion was a concern about the flooring being abrasive to socks and clothing. I haven't seen Market brand as much very but you could search 'Market LVP flooring'. Sometimes the conversations are dated but should give you a good idea of people's thoughts. We're building with a home builder so we're limited in brands; the builders option is Armstrong. I choose to outfit our whole home with Armstrong Empower Scandia Oak Rigid Core LVP. I hope it's right choice because it's quite the price tag. Good luck.
