New, but out-of-warranty, convection microwave displays error code E23 and shuts down. It is a March 2006 unit, Model No. JMV9169BAP, Ser. No. 10006246JE. This only happens when you turn on the microwave and set it to convection oven mode AND then try to simultaneously operate the microwave's built-in exhaust vent feature (which exhausts fumes from items being cooked below the microwave on the cooktop, sending these fumes up through the microwave and out a duct attached to the microwave's top that then runs to the exterior of our house). Detailed example: While the convection oven mode is operating (i.e., you can see the red heating elements in the microwave glowing and hear the fan sound as it is warming up to 400 degrees to cook a casserole), after 10 minutes or so I then proceed to turn the microwave's exhaust vent feature on (usually to a high setting) to exhaust fumes from dishes I am also preparing on the burners. After several minutes of the microwave both convection cooking and this exhaust vent operating, the whole thing shuts down and displays the E23 error code. Everything is fine if I convection cook without using the exhaust vent, and vice versa. I can find NOTHING about this error code and the fine folks at Jenn Air tell me they are not legally permitted to tell me what it means. [Can you believe that?] Anyone out there have a technical contact at Jenn Air or encountered this code before? What does the code mean? Just curious. My guess is maybe nothing is wrong with the microwave and it was designed this way, but I want to make sure that nothing is really wrong with the unit and/or that the eletrician did not install it incorrectly. Again, what does E23 mean? THX all! I may try to repair myself if necessary.

I have to admit, it was the looks of this range that got me. It took 1-1/2 years of service with almost all of the parts replaced before it worked correctly. The LP conversion was not complete, the technician did not install a fitting on the broiler and the flame was WAY too big. This could have set the wall on fire and may have been the cause of some of the service problems...hard to say. Yes, a lot of heat blows at you from the oven, will try putting the vent fan on prior to cooking! I have a 400cfm Maytag microwave over the range that come on automatically when it senses too much heat. It’s only been about a year since installed. It does take about 20-25 minutes for this little oven to preheat. I would highly recommend the pro series just for the built in thermometer, even for $500! The 30” oven is small for entertaining or for a family. I can’t seem to fit anything but a cookie sheet on the second rack. Love the infrared broiler, although electric is always preferable for baking. The 30” is fine for two people, and since the conversion was corrected everything works great. elaine

Based on what i have read it sounds like this may be the relay board for the lower oven. My suggestion is to read all the comments here and other forums( i have learned a lot from doing searches - including about the high temp reset button, which dacor wouldn't tell me about) and saved a lot of money. I would check this first since it is easy to do. I have the same oven and the bottom unit had the same problem about 6 months ago and we never used it much so i didn't try to fix it. Yesterday we started hearing beeps from the oven so i shut the breaker and put it back on and i got a very weird display "050 JJJJ 060" in the display and nothing would happen with the top oven. I called Dacor today and they told me that this is not a normal error code and that it could be from lightning/power surge but I probably needed a new oven control. I called a parts place I have used before and the price for the control was about $300, the top relay was $200 and the bottom oven relay was $80. He told me that I could replace them myself and i should start with the oven control. I also learned from Dacor that the touchpad is no longer available, if I needed that part. My light works so I was guessing that the touchpad worked. I I figured that I may try it since it would cost over double if i called a repair service, but since the oven is now 15 years old and the bottom oven didn't work i decided to go look at new ovens and figured it may be easier to junk it. I then got depressed over the prices of a good oven. Anyway i came home and decided to try the breaker again and see what code I got(I had already tried several times) I got the same code and decided to start pushing buttons, somehow the clock came on and then i tried to put in a cooking mode and it started working. Just for kicks i decided to try the bottom oven and it started working, it hadn't worked before for 6-12 months. I have no idea what is going on, but the word "off" came up at some point and i was looking at the manual and you can lock out the unit by hitting cancel and secure. I have no idea if we had locked it by accident but now both ovens are working. I can't say for how long, and but I will probably just replace it if it acts up again. Anyway, I would learn as much as I could and try to fix it yourself, sounds like most technicians are not very good at diagnosing these units anyway. Good luck

THEY RATE THE WHIRLPOOL GOLD THE HIGHEST IN BAKING, MUCH HIGHER THAN EITHER THE VIKING OR WOLF, BUT THE WEB IS FULL OF NEGATIVE COMMENTS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE WHIRLPOOL. SOME PEOPLE EVEN CHASTISED CONSUMER REPORTS FOR CONTINUING TO RATE THE WHIRLPOOL SO HIGH IN LIGHT OF ALL OF THE CONSISTENT NEGATIVE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS! MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS CONCERN ANNOYANCE WITH AN EXTREMELY LOUD CONVECTION FAN THAT RUNS FOR A LONG TIME AFTER THE OVEN HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. ONE REVIEWER SAID THAT THE FAN WAS SO LOUD THAT IT COULD BE HEARD IN THE FARTHEST REACHES OF HER HOUSE! I ATTEMPTED TO LISTEN TO THE WHIRLPOOL IN A COUPLE OF APPLIANCE STORES BUT THE SALESPEOPLE TOLD ME THAT IN ORDER TO HEAR THE FULL SOUND MADE BY AN OVEN IT HAS TO BE HOOKED UP TO A 220 LINE AND APPLIANCE STORES CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE 220 LINES FOR ALL OF THEIR DISPLAY OVENS. THUS, MOST OVENS IN APPLIANCE STORES HAVE ONLY ENOUGH ELECTRICITY TO LIGHT UP THE DIALS AND OVEN LIGHT, SO IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO FULLY EXPERIENCE AN OVEN'S PERFORMANCE IN AN APPLIANCE SHOWROOM. OF MORE CONCERN TO ME, WERE THE MULTITUDE OF WHIRLPOOL REVIEWS THAT COMPLAINED ABOUT UNEVEN BAKING AND COMPLETE OVEN FAILURE AFTER THE FIRST USE OF THE CLEANING CYCLE. UNFORTUNATELY, MANY CONSUMER MAGAZINES IN THE PAST ONLY RATED ITEMS IN THE MID MARKET PRICE RANGE, SO IT WAS DIFFICULT TO FIND INDEPENDENT REVIEWS OF GAGGENAU, BLUE STAR, MIELE, VIKING, WOLF, LA CORNUE, OR AGA KITCHEN APPLIANCES.
