I have the LR6 about 4 feet apart for about a total of 12 in my kitchen. My ceilings are 9'9". They are very bright. It's almost too much light, but a really very nice light ;). I haven't gotten the dimmer installed yet. My kitchen is an odd shape, we'll say 20' by an average of 12 feet. So, 9 might be too much for you. 9 probably would have been better for me. But, I'm no lighting designer ;)

We are planning a small makeover for the only bathroom in our small house. We plan to do the following: remove the flushmount ceiling fixture and patch ceiling add an exhaust fan with light over the shower add two recessed lights: one over the toilet area and one between the doorway and the vanity (evenly flanking the vanity) replace the vanity light with a more appropriate sconce remove the wallpaper; paint walls shiplap and paint the ceiling I'd like GW help on the following: What size recessed lights are appropriate for this small bathroom (barely 6x9)? Two 4" or two 6"? I like LEDs. What brand do you recommend? Can we install this in phases, beginning with the recessed lighting and exhaust fan and add the shiplap at a later date? That is, can the fixtures be adjusted lower to accommodate the wood planking when we get to that phase? If the new recessed lighting offers downlight, should we plan on installing an upward facing sconce above the vanity or can we do a downward facing sconce (perhaps with clear or translucent glass shades)? Other notes: We will replace the hideous wall cabinet with open shelves. We are aware that the tile on the floor is wall tile and not floor tile (slippery when wet!), but until we build a second bathroom, we cannot replace it. Thanks!

I recommend Juno lighting. They will have solutions for each type of installation. For instance, the shower recessed can needs to be one that can be used in wet locations. Visit a reputable lighting showroom (not a big box store) and work with a salesperson.

You may have already thought about this, but dimmer switches will make whatever lighting scheme you decide on more flexible. Also, think about where furniture will be before placing the recessed lighting. 18 months ago we moved into a 25 year old house that had a finished basement (also with some windows, like yours). While they at least had dimmers on the recessed lighting, the placement of some of the cans was puzzling, even considering where they had their furniture when we saw the house before purchasing (the previous owners did the basement fit-out). I like the one room that has cans in the four corners and a central fixture which is a semi-flush 3-light (the cans are placed about two feet from the walls). The result is that the room is lit very evenly without the use of any table or floor lamps. I use the room for an office so I have a desk lamp for task lighting. Even if you don't use the other part of your basement, if you finish it so it could be used for a family room it will be good for your resale value. The next owners may want to put their teenagers down there with a big television. :-) I love the idea of the full bathroom. That is something I don't have in mine.
