Which kitchen upgrades? Please help!
Comments (63)Thanks guys! I'm glad to get your feedback on this because I was really thinking of only doing 2 cabinets with drawers. I'll ask on Monday about the specifics on what they can do as I'd like some deeper drawers and maybe some that go the width of 2 cabinets to make them look better. Drawer stacks are listed as $250 each in our manual but that's all I really know. I am planning on getting a double trash can pullout ($250) I'm planning on getting the chrome version of the hardware in the picture. heres a picture of the wider drawer stack. I think it has a cleaner look. The window wall has an odd number of cabinets (5) so I'm not sure how to plan this out. A skinny stack in the center and 2 wider stacks? Maybe do the deeper drawers near the stove to hold more pots/pans? Thoughts?...See MoreUpgrade replacement for a Kitchen Aid Microwave Wall Oven unit
Comments (2)As you probably know, Whirlpool Corp makes Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and Maytag appliances among others. The Maytag MMW9730FZ is very similar to the KitchenAid KOCE500ESS though it does have somewhat fewer features. It's the same size and fits in the same cutout. At Home Depot, it's backordered until July 7* but that's not as bad as the KitchenAid backorder which isn't available until July 19. Another possibility is the LG LWC3063ST whose wall oven is well-rated and has high predicted reliability by Consumer Reports. No backlog at Home Depot. *AJ Madison's website says it has one Maytag MMW9730FZ in stock....See Moresmall kitchen upgrade— needs lot of help
Comments (29)Something that might be useful to give you a bit more counter with the doors and tight space: These angled bits of counter let you get a bit more space while not impeding the doorway. We have another door on the other side of the range (just left of toaster), and we have another angled piece of counter like the one on the right next to that door. If you put the fridge on the wall with the doors, like Woodhaven Renovations shows, you might be able add a cabinet and triangle of counter on each short wall heading towards the doors. Having a small kitchen, those extra bits can be surprisingly useful, and not just for toasters, plants and stuff, haha. Mini cabinet there is great for cutting boards, cookie sheets, and the boxes of plastic wrap, aluminum foil, and plastic bags. Obviously turning the corner on the sink side would need the dishwasher to flip to the other side of the sink....See More1961 kitchen upgrade help!
Comments (5)I love your taste in inspiration images! Here’s what I see. The first thing I’d do in your space is remove the texture from the ceiling. You can do that yourself, or hire a painter to do it before he paints the ceiling. Those cabinets can be cleaned, sanded and coated in polyurethane fairly easily. It's a lot of elbow grease, but that again is something you can DIY, or have the painters do. The one cabinet I would alter though, would be that raised bar area. I’d make it the same height as the rest of your cabinets to truly update the look. This might be easier than you think, as you have stick built cabinetry. It means cutting down the cabinet sides, face, and doors. I would also re-do the backsplash, removing the existing tile and replacing it with a paler green or blue tile. Regarding the floor, you have red oak throughout the home. I’d put the same flooring in the kitchen. This will probably involve removing a subfloor build-up of 3/4” plywood. If your counters are laminate, it is pretty inexpensive to keep the substrate and re-laminate it with a white Formica. It will make a huge difference in how bright the space feels (and Two of your inspiration images have white counters). Another option would be to choose Corian. What a great space!...See Morecawaps
