Need advice -- tool set for DH
Comments (20)Well, I used to think that, too. When I got better at woodworking (like in the first year) I realized that the Sears tools were not all that good. I did continue to buy mechanic's tools from them as I'm not that critical of a user of them. After staying away, for the most part, for 20 years, I decided to give them another try. I got really terrible customer service (like the sales people walking away from me and into the back room, the pointing finger, "I think they're over there (somewhere)" and "What is that? No, I don't think we have them.") I had a nice socket set and the blow-mold box fell apart. I tried to get replaced under "lifetime guarantee" and got a number of stories. One was "we don't cover anything with a moving part." So, screwdrivers, yes, ratcheting screwdrivers, no. "We don't carry that assortment any more." "No we can't just give you a new box in a size that holds your assortment, we don't have just the boxes," etc. etc. etc. I wrote a nice one-page letter to the store manager to complain about all the crappy service I'd had in the previous few months. I did not even get a note or call, "We are sorry for your problems." Nothing, nilch, nada. I just decided to vote with my feet. The other problem I have with Craftsman tools is that for powered tools, they use the vendor du jour and even a couple of years later, chances are you will not be able to get any replacement parts. I can walk in the store that services Bosch and get a replacement sanding pad (for a 20 year old sander) over the counter, and they ask, how many, what density, hook and loop or PSA, etc. Sorry to rant, but I think Craftsman has been coasting on their reputation with our fathers and grandfathers for the last 30 years. Time was, when Sears was one of the few, if any, places you could get a lot of those tools outside the much higher priced professional tool lines. Just ask anyone unfortunate enough to have ever had a "Flex drive table saw." Besides, just about everyone now offers Lifetime Warranties -- Home Depot and Lowe's house brands, Crescent, Irwin, etc. -- Oh, and digging into the toolbox this morning, I left a few things off: - Japanese saw - Magnetic and mechanical pick ups - Vernier Calipers - Upholstery spring puller (all these fit in a 28" box with plenty of room to spare)...See MoreSmall farmhouse table, anyone experienced in woodworking?
Comments (51)Hi EQ, Speaking of "as long as I can remember".. Maybe I just read your post twice and that's why I thought you had made two tables or possibly equated your apple pie recipe with making furniture, who knows. I can almost remember the days when I could remember. Senility is the "E-Ticket" of life. The un-induced double vision is like the metro bus that that awaits you on every corner. o_O I've never missed a bus in my life but sure do miss being able to see straight. At least with senility you keep forgetting you have it. You can't remember that you can't remember. I used to be able to spot things a mile away and now all I see are spots. I was reading another post where someone was talking (if I can remember correctly) about miscommunication with contractors and architects and was going to be relaxing with an "adult beverage" and the fist thing that came to mind was "yuk-!", prune juice is not what you want to be drinking if you want to relax. Then it dawned on me... Tequila. I should remember to ask my doctor about that. Not for me but for my friends so they'll talk louder so I could possibly hear them. I don't think I've ever bought a new piece of furniture that made it through the doors of my house. I have bought some Grants' specials to gift to others knowing the piece it replaced would be tossed to the curb though. It is amazing what people consider garbage. People used to think I made and refinished furniture because I enjoyed it but that was the farthest from the truth. I just like nice things and you could not buy them at G. Fox et al. So now that your table is done and you're anxious to have some people over for dinner the moment your chairs arrive what's on the menu for the christening?...See MoreHas anyone used BHG's arrange-a-room tool?
Comments (6)I don't see anything that says Room Size (or a blue part, for that matter). I have tabs that say Room Shape, Add Furniture, and Choose Colors. I'm pretty sure I've used this a couple months ago with no problem...I wonder if they've changed it or if I'm somehow loading an older version?...See MoreCan anyone id this plant please
Comments (6)General location provides context and makes it easier to identify plants...especially when we're dealing with similar looking but unrelated species that have vastly different cultural/climatic requirements....See Moresalex
