Last night I watched Young Frankenstein. So campy, I love it.

And this fall I binge-watched Good Witch the series, where Halloween is the biggest holiday of the year for the town. (and it always seems to be summer).

I am not a fan of movies, period. I have a hard time staying hitched, and if they don't hold my interest from the git go....I lose interest fast. Now, when I was a kid....I loved the old scary movies....the original Frankenstein, the old Bella Lugosi movies...the Werewolf. They came on late on Saturday nights and I would always try to stay awake to watch them, but I usually fell asleep. Hmmmm. I have that same problem now.

I supposed i watched (and was scarred by) too many Saturday horror flicks at our local theater when i was a kid. The very ones Marilyn mentioned above. Awful, I tell ya! So give me The Great Pumpkin any day.

Marilyn, I actually do not like watching many movies. The only movies I can sit through these days are Halloween, Thanksgiving and of course, my beloved Christmas movies. It makes SO kinda sad that I do not want to watch a new movie with him. He likes movies, I prefer TV. I will suffer through sometimes but I usually look for an escape, "You hungry?, let me go cook you something." " I think the dog needs to go out, you keep watching, Ill do it." etc.

I watched Young Frankenstein just a few nights ago too. Good fun, but it's actually a comedy, in my opinion.

There are some horror movies I like, but they're not Halloween themed - more SciFi/Fantasy horror, like Alien, Aliens, The Fly (1986), and The Thing (1982), or psych horror like Rosemary's Baby. Get Out, or The Mist (I know the mist has a big scary alien monster thing, but the real horror is the psychological horror. The monster is just the catalyst).

I don't like the gory slasher movies. My favorite is Hocus Pocus. I watch it every year. Last year I pulled up a movie to watch from my childhood. The Ghost and Mr Chicken.

I love scary movies, not gory ones where they just slaughter people but more like thriller type movies. I even like ghost movies as long as they aren't bloody and have a good story to them. My favorites shows growing up were The Twilight Zone, Creature Features, and Night Gallery. I think the Night Gallery was my favorite. My favorite author is Stephen King, so I do like to be scared as long as I'm safe.

I love scary or paranormal movies, but not the gory, slasher kind. Loved ”The Others”, ”The Sixth Sense”, “The Orphanage” etc and Stephen King based movies. I also watch old stuff like ”Twilight Zone” on YouTube or ghost hunter shows, though I don’t care for the ones where the hunters run out of the place every time they hear a creak, or attribute every single thing that happens as ”a ghost”, or order what might be a ghost to do things (at least ask politely) and challenge the maybe ghost to throw something at them or whatever.

The Ghost and Mrs Muir is one of my favorite ghost movies. Last night we watched Heaven Can Wait which is kind of a ghost movie.

The Sixth Sense, thanks for the reminder, colleenoz. It's so good that like Apollo 13, even knowing how it ends you still get sucked in to the storytelling.

We both liked Sleeping with the Enemy when it first came out, but when we saw it recently it was just so dated.

Last weekend I kind of watched the old Dracula, but it's soooooo slooooow.

We've been watching Elvira on Shout Factory, and the other day we watched. I've also seen Elvira in person a few times in L.A., at special events, including RuPaul's DragCon.

I watched The Thing (1951) a few days ago because it happened to be on, as well as Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte, which I like a lot.

I do like scary and horror movies and have a collection of them on DVD.

I did not think that the old Dracula was slow, and I appreciate Dracula movies that closely follow the book by Bram Stoker, which I read when I was about fourteen. I found the book very scary, especially when it would talk about wolves howling, and I was hearing coyotes howling from my bedroom in rural central Texas.

No...I still have nightmares after I see large flocks of meandering Birds. Don't want anything

remotely spooky, nightmarish movies anymore.

For the most part, I totally avoid scary movies. But, I have seen The Sixth Sense and Signs a few times. My all-time favorite Halloween movie has always been It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.

Ugh, The Birds. Scarred me for life.

Lars, maybe part of my issue was I watched it on a "Creature Features" matinee with a host, Svengooli, who is way more annoying than Elvira and not as stunning.

"The Others" and "Sixth Sense" are a couple of my favorite movies. Along with the even older "Ghost Story" about a group of old men who come back to a place they spent their youth and things begin to happen. I watched it at the drive in theater with a now old friend of mine. She lived out in the country from our little town. I had to drive her home afterwards and then drive myself back to town. I remember being so scared after I dropped her off and kept seeing things in my rear view mirror. One bad thing about reading and watching scary things is having an over active imagination.

Bpath, I don't especially like Svengooli either, although I do like some of the movies he shows. He's not nearly as bad as "Mystery Science Theater," which I refuse to watch. Their comments are stupider than the movies they are showing, and they should just shut up and let me watch the movie. At least Svengooli waits for intermissions to make his comments (which are not nearly as stupid as MST), and so I can mute him if I want to, although I do not find him that offensive.

In San Francisco in the 1970s and early 1980s, I used to watch channel 36 from San Jose for late night movies, hosted by Carol Doda, a former stripper who had performed on Broadway Street in North Beach, San Francisco. She would introduce herself by saying, "I'm the perfect 36 in San Jose - how's your reception?" I'm not sure what "36" about her was perfect, however. She seemed much older than 36.

I just watched a 38 minute video called , Confessions of a Time Traveler: from 3036. I thought it was pretty scary. 38 minute video It's a person telling what our future is like. That is scary! ☺ smile

Lars- maybe her bust size? You know, the old "36, 24, 36" mantra? It was more commonly said in those times, I don't hear it anymore.

I have never really enjoyed scary movies. I'd watch them as a teenager because all of my friends did. We went to the movies as entertainment a lot back then, and I would miss 1/2 the movie because I wouldn't watch when that scary music indicated something was about to happen.

My standard line now is that I don't need to watch horror films - I find real life sufficiently horrifying. 😐

A cute animated movie we saw with the grandkids is Frankenweenie. At one point in the movie, the name Shelley appeared which was a neat reference to Mary Shelley, the writer of Frankenstein.

I always thought ”The Birds” was more stupid than scary. I especially hated the bit at the end when they were trying to decide between a sports car and a truck to evacuate the remaining townspeople, and they chose the sports car because it was faster. For a dozen people????

Lars, I didn’t know Svengoolie was national! Back in, oh, maybe the 70s, he was a disembodied voice on a black and yellow background between commercials on ”Screaming Yellow Theater” in Chicago. We thought he was quite witty, but then we were just teens, what did we know?Then they added photos, and then he was live. Honestly, my brother and I preferred him as a disembodied voice. Later we learned that he (Jerry G. Bishop) lived not far from us. He did a lot of local radio back in those days. Looking him up now, I see he moved to California. I don’t care for the later Svengoolies, I guess I’m stuck in the ’70s. Jerry G. played him like a Transylvanian hippie.

I had nightmares for weeks from "The Haunting" (1963). I was only 11 or 12 when I saw it. It was based on the novel by Shirley Jackson. The 1999 version was terrible. Netflix did an adaptation in 2018, "The Haunting of Hill House" TV series. It differed from the book but thought it was a well done mystery.

There is a new TV show on tonite at 9 PM CBS. It's called Ghost. I hope it is good. The reviews looks promising.

No one has mentioned the movie "1408"! That is one scary movie. Anyone else watched it? John Cusack was in it with Samuel L. Jackson and Tony Shalhoub.

Not a fan of the scary movie. Most teen flix are really STARTLE movies, and all that jumping gives me a head ache!! IMPO the most frightening movie I ever watched was Silence of the Lambs--the chance it was REAL had me awake all night for a week!! The campy Beetle Juice and the like I would categorize as Halloween movies= good family FUN. #1 ; only show I watch every year w/o fail is It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!

Lars - when I see old cartoons like this it makes me wonder what drug they were on.

^It was probably cocaine, or possibly marijuana, or a combination of the two.

I prefer comedy to gore, but I don't mind gore in some things. Vincent Price movies from the 60s are fun. I particularly liked Theater Of Blood.

Tim Burton movies have a Halloween vibe to them - who can forget Beetlejuice?

When I was in early elementary school, my friends and I regularly watched the old Universal monster movies from the 30s & 40s - Frankenstein, Dracula, the Mummy, et al...I never was scared by them, more like intrigued!

The Sixth Sense is one of my favorite movies too, but not really scary.

I will not watch slasher type movies.
