We are on our second sectional from Lazy Boy. I know Lazy Boy doesn't get a lot of love but our first sectional from Lazy Boy held up really well. It is now being used in my daughters apartment. We bought a new sectional from Lazy Boy but it is not small. I call it the Joey and Chandler sectional. Anyone that is a fan of Friends will know what I mean. I wanted a sleeker sectional. I also wanted the option of reclining. When we went to the Lazy Boy store DH's pick was the Joey and Chandler type and mine was a smaller sleeker type. I lost and the reason I lost was due to comfort. We sat on the smaller sleeker sectional and it was like sitting on cement. In our household we are sprawlers. We don't sit on a couch. We sprawl. So comfort overruled style.

haha -- we just bought a Lazy Boy too (sofa & 2 chairs), won't be delivered until January, but were swayed by the positive reviews (online & from friends), the look, it was comfortable & the husband insisted on it. We bought a Pottery Barn sectional last year (for a different room) & I hate everything about it, it's a magnet for hair/lint, the cushions always slide off - even when nobody is sitting on it, the stitching is sloppy - ugh - I hate it. Numerous complaints to PB went unanswered so I take every opportunity I get to warn people about them.

So this is my opinion on seationals . They are the most expensive way to buy the least number of comfortable seating . Not to mention awful for conversation. Comfort comes with arm rests so 2 people get one arm rest each better than none but no great all the rest of the seats are like the middle seat on a sofa where no one ever wants to sit. IMO all cahirs would be the perfect answer but at least a sofa and 2 choirs will give you at least 4 people who are comfy not 2 . O also really dislike chaise pieces even if you insist on a sectional .

@Patricia Colwell Consulting Thanks! I actually would prefer not to go with a sectional but the way the space is layed out it seems like the only option. I only have 90 or so inches between the fireplace and the back of the couch which doesnt leave room for 2 chairs if a sofa is approx 40" deep. And I need the other side open so I cant do one and one on either side of the coffee table. I'm looking into maybe a bumper chaise so part of it has a back.

I had previously had a sofa and loveseat which was great but we moved a doorway a few inches to accomodate a new entrance to our master and now there isnt enough room for that..

We are researching sectionals as well. I am down to a couple: Crate & Barrel Gather and Benchmademodern.com

The C&B Gather seemed super comfy and we had great experience with a C&B sofa previously. But, the size might not work for our space.

The BMM I like because the size is uber customizeable. We have a narrow room and we can make it fit perfectly. But, I only have online reviews and no in-person testing.

@Juliet the gather is super comfy but the dimensions weren't quite right for me! I decided to go with the Crate and Barrel Peyton which I think is just as comfortable and will fit in my space. I'm excited although I wont get it until January.
