and now... the mud room
Comments (17)Hi Gang! Sorry for the delay in responding... Dang day job!;) Thanks for the compliments on the Hearth Room. I really need to create a blog of all the before/afters. They are random width peg floors - I have no idea who makes them (they were here when we moved in) but if anyone knows, please tell me. I want them for when we do DH's loft office. The contraption (love that word) next to the washer/dryer is a plumbed in Cat Genie. :D www.catgenie.com I have more pix for you all. See below. I'm trying to decide on the paint colors. So the adjacent room is the Hearth room that has Berkshire Beige and Decorators White. I'm thinking BM Decorators White for all trim and wainscoting and BM Sandy Hook Gray for the upper. I also like BM Stone Harbor....See MoreMud room/ Laundry room/ Sewing room?
Comments (12)I wouldn't want my sewing area to be part of the laundry or the mudroom. I can't imagine that it would be all that enjoyable to spend time there. At least not for me. Once I get going on a project, I like to spread out. I also find I need lots of natural light to be comfortable when I'm working on a project. How much light would you really have? I think it would be easier to combine the mudroom and laundry area and then incorporate long term storage if you have extra room in that area. If you like to garden, it could also be space for a utility sink and grow lights or a potting area. I'd steal an extra bedroom and have my sewing area do double duty with a guest bedroom. I have a good sized laundry room and I'm always suprised when people ask why I didn't make the extra space into my sewing area. No one ever asks why I didn't stick the DH and his computer in there! Comments (15)Mom of seven here. We farm which means everyone has two full wardrobes of everything: Farm and Town. I have some quick ideas for you, no time to be diplomatic sorry. You need to purge. Dozens of hats are not necessary for six people. Choose two each: one light weight beanie and one really warm toque. Ditto mittens/gloves: one lighter weight for dashing to the grocery store, one heavy pair for skiing etc. Each person's stuff will fit in one basket. No one needs more than one pair of Crocs or flip flops. Those can go on a shoe rack by the door. Put a towel hook over the closet door, that's where everyone can store their towel. Colour coding avoids fights: Payton can't say that Blake stole her towel if hers is yellow and his is green. Bathing suits can be stored where they change. Check out the rental area at your local ski hill. Recreate that storage situation with one set of boots and skis for each. You mentioned that this kind of equipment is stored outside but: I see ski boots! Where you have a hanging rod, instead install a pullout clothes drying rack. Put one over the laundry sink too. The white organizer looks disfunctional in that it seems stuff can tumble out easily and it's too hard to see what's at the bottom of each bin. A basket or drawer on a bench is best in my experience, those cube organizers are ok too but then they have to pull a drawer out and hold it while they search. Instead I would put a deep bench or two under the hooks and set baskets on it. A coffee table actually works well for this. Put boot trays in front of it to catch drips. The hooks are too high for anyone under twelve to reach independently. Lower them for the kids. Add shelves above them. Having said that, I don't see any toddler stuff here. Time for peeps to get responsible....See MoreRaise mud room floor and door to be level with next room
Comments (4)We need a picture of the exterior mud room add-on including the roof. Because we need to see if a header is required and how much space there is between the top of the door and the ceiling joists of the mudroom. Also, are the walls of the mudroom sitting on an above grade stem wall? It may well be that the only fix is a tear down & start over if the framing is at or below grade....See MoreLyn Nielson
