Can I hard prune my plumeria when I bring them inside for winter?

I live in PA, zone 6, and have 3, plumeria, 2 of which are 5 feet tall. The other is shorter and bushier. The nightly temps are dropping, but they still have tons of flowers! They are so big it's getting so hard to drag inside for the winter. We have an unheated garage, but I think that will be too cold for them. They are in heavy clay pots and my husband is either going to hurt himself carrying them into the basement or kill me and my plants so he doesn't have to do it! (😜Just kidding!)

I've heard you can take them right out of the pots and winter them dry rooted, but they are getting too big and lopsided for the deck anyhow.

Any advice on when I can prune them, and how low I can cut them back? Anyone out there tried the dry root method?
