If you are looking for clumpers, which I recommend, I would look into the following: Bambusa multiplex 'Fernleaf Stripestem' or B. multiplex 'Riviereorum' CHINESE GODDESS or B. multiplex 'Willowy'WANG TSAI. All are very dense growing with tiny leaves and if they get a bit too tall, they are easily trimmed back although you probably won't need to. They do have a tendency to lean outward somewhat but again, they can be trimmed to the desired shape. Fast growing to size, but don't spread very fast. Good Luck Kt

Jason- Good luck on that one. The last clump of that bamboo that made it into the country under a special permit several years ago was purchased for $7000 by several investors. It's located in the Greater Seattle area. However, it is not doing well, and it had put up no new culms the last time I saw it.

Bamboo gardens should have photos, or in the past, they've told me to drive to a particular neighborhood and so and so has a mature stand of such and such bamboo. If you didn't take the walk around, I'd highly recommend going back for a full tour, you may see what you are looking for. They've always been very helpful for us.

This was growing on our frontage slope among Gazanias, Rosemary and Sages until DH mistook it for an agapanthas and transplanted it in a row where we always have a red, white and blue display for the 4th. Obviously it isn't an agapanthas, so we'll have to go buy one of those and put this one back on it's slope where it can live a long life. AFTER it's done blooming, back it will go. You all have so many beautiful lilies! I never knew how many colors and varieties there are prior to visiting you all here. I'm sort of surprised that this Ditchlily grows in NY and Michigan. Usually plants that grow there need chill hours and won't grow here in Southern California. I guess it's really a tough little daylily.
