Hey everybody , back to square one!!!
Comments (18)I'm going to say in advance that I haven't read through all your posts. But, I gather from the first one that you are trying to match a porcelain tile that looks like marble with real marble. I think you should choose whatever you like, but since you asked for advice I'll throw mine in. I just wouldn't do that. I would use all real marble or only use the porcelain look alike. When we were shopping, I saw some porcelain marble look alike that looked pretty good until you put it beside real marble. In my mind, it is never going to measure up. Now if I saw a bathroom with just the porcelain in it, then I might not even realize it wasn't the real thing unless I touched it. If you really want the real marble, then I would try to find something to complement it not something that tries to mimic it. We just finished our bathroom and in the end I decided to go with real marble for the floors. I know people go on and on about the maintenance, but my feeling is that marble has been used for thousands of years in homes and outdoor locations. Also, I know I can live with minor etching and imperfection as a quality of natural stone. I know it is frustrating. We had all our tile picked out and then when we went to purchase it they were completely out of some and didn't have enough of the other. I had to start over from scratch trying to find similar tile somewhere else. In the end, I like the new tile way more than what we had originally picked out. It all worked out for the best and I think once it is all over you will feel that way as well. It is just hard not to get stressed out about it in the moment....See MoreHey - Mr. I wish I could show you guys my cleaning aisle! Faron!
Comments (17)Ack! dlm, I forgot to post back. First, my gray is a Dove Gray (light). In darker areas it's a mid-level, maybe a battleship gray? Charlie's soap powder form, diluted in water, scrubbed, let it sit, scrubbed again, wiped. Probably got it up to 60%. Then I did a different section with diluted Charlie's soap and Oxyclean scrubbed in on top of that. Let sit maybe 20 min, scrubbed, 'rinsed'. Much better. Not 100% like the light Dove gray at outer perimeters of floor, but easily 80 to 85%. Close enough you have to really be staring at it to see the difference. (Can't get a pic to show it well, shadows from vanity are throwing off grout.) So I'll clean it good that way & immediately seal, and I'll be happy. :) If you want to check it out, I don't know how close this is to you, but if I'm downtown & need some CS I get it Be By Baby (Wrigleyville area). Easy metered parking on side street (I always find a spot - a miracle!). Or you can go to CS website, maybe there's a dealer near you. (Not me, it's either downtown or mail.) I also get through Amazon. Free super saver shipping + $11.50 or so is a good price. (Think it's about $14 at Be By Baby). I wasn't impressed with their bottled spot treatment. For the price I just put a scoop (abt 1TB) of powder in a spray bottle, make my own, works just as well....See MoreHey wait, I can use the kitchen sink!
Comments (19)Annie - it can really range in price by a lot, so I would recommend getting a few estimates. We got ours in 1994, so I don't know if it can be fixed or we'll have to replace the system. Tomorrow morning the Sears guy comes out to look at it and then I guess we'll know. But I can tell you it's definitely worth it to have soft water. (except for your hair. my hair always looks better washed in hard water. don't know why that is!)...See MoreAnyone else use Granite Transformations?
Comments (13)I'm glad that you're happy with your new tops. I'm interested to hear how you like them in the long run. As a KD, I looked in to the product when it was first available in my area. And because of the high cost, I decided not to look in to it further. Solid 3cm granite (quartz and acrylic as well)installations is usually done in a day too. I use a granite fabricator that will do: -tearout old tops (not much demo to it) -set new tops and optional splashes -hookup plumbing (if granite or quartz, should be done next day) They would be done in 3-6 hours depending on the job. The only thing they don't do is electrical hookups (ie slide in range) In those cases, I hire a carpenter or electrician to go out and do that. Did you have the impression that granite took more than a day to install? I'm sorry, but I just don't see the benefit of this company for most people. If it was 1/3 of the cost of granite....maybe. My entry level granite is about $58 sq ft. installed, but you have to pay extra for the optional tearout and plumbing hookups. Tearouts average around $150-$200. Plumbing hookups range from $100-$262. But if you're thrilled with your tops and service, that's what's important....See MoreSingle-Handedly
