Hey wait, I can use the kitchen sink!

Got up this morning and headed to the bathroom for water for coffee... stopped midstride and said: "hey wait! I can use the kitchen! yep. trotted downstairs and used my brand new ticor sink and kohler forte faucet. So fun!

They came yesterday and hooked up the sink and all the appliances and electric. I just need to paint and give everything a thorough cleaning and then I'll have a finished kitchen!

"doing a happy dance now! LOL"

Ha ha! I remember that feeling! So happy for you!!! I had a similar experience the other day when we finished installing the toilet in the taking-way-too-long master bathroom renovation. It was embarrassing how happy it made me to pee in that new toilet!

Ha! I did the same thing with the microwave. I would prepare something with the new microwave RIGHT IN FRONT of me...and then head to the table in the den to reheat it.

Hi Philes, A grub-axe is like a pick-axe except that one of the blades is short and wide rather than long and narrow. I'm sure many people would call this a pick-axe as well, but I learned it as a grub-axe, to differentiate it from the more traditional pick-axe. Glad to hear about your re-grading, what a big payoff for some small amount of hard work while the grass is dying anyway! Tarnator - I agree there are too many choices out there and the prices are insane! I found mine at overstock.com and paid less than 1/2 the price. This sink listed at $500, I paid $195. This sink is well made. There is an undercoating for durability and noise reduction. I have to say this sink was a bit heavy. I had a hard time getting it out of the box. I preferred the single over the double b/c I wanted to be able to wash pot and pans without a problem, including my grill's racks. Its absolutely gorgeous! Love it! Good luck with your decision.

sophie - unfortunately, I didn't pick the paint color and there is no name - but I do LOVE the color -Thank you to the woman who lived here before. I looked on the can and it is Coronado paint K13-2. We definitely wanted contrast with the floors, so at first it was Maple Natural, but we switched to this color and I am very happy with that decision. I nearly didn't open this thread, missing that it was a reveal. I'm glad my curiosity got the better of me because I would have hated missing this reveal! I love the two-tone look. I especially love the piece of wood trim along the upper cabs. Nice touch! I had no idea pecan wood was so lovely. Your DH did a very nice job on your banquette bench. What a nice transition between kitchen and FR. I also really like the floating shelves he built for you. Great use of space in that skinny cab for your upper island counter. It all looks so good, I'm glad you didn't wait any longer to share your new kitchen with us! btw, my cardboard island hood would have been good company for your cardboard island. I made this when we were still contemplating keeping our island cook top so we could see how it looked and felt with an island hood (we ended up moving cook top to the perimeter, so glad we did). I was ridiculously proud of my creation (I generally am craft-impaired). One of DS1's friends tried to talk me into covering it with foil and keeping it hung up as "art."

I may never let my kids into the new kitchen - they can keep using the temporary one in the den til May! LOL

Prill, not quite finished (I spoke too soon!)
- everything still needs to be painted, I need to either paint or tile the backsplash, and I'm waiting on cabinet pulls and a replacement light fixture. But THEN it will be done!!!

Same thing last week - water in the sink! No more washing dishes in the bathroom! Then our water softener went out and now I'm back to washing in the bathroom because --- I don't want to get hard water stains on my brand-new ticor sink!!! Am I TKO or what! lol!!

Glad your kitchen is almost a kitchen:)

Love your sink and faucet! And your granite looks so pretty! I am jealous!
(Although I have to say having no kitchen does lower the expectations my family has of me cooking a great meal for a little while, which I am enjoying.)

ok,

Does anyone else ever get just a tiny bit embarrassed by how excited you get to see a picture of water running into a sink?

Man, I'd probably have to wear a drool rag if you showed me one with how well the pullout worked by getting the spray into the corner of the sink or how well it worked to fill a pot sitting on the counter!

My family totally doesn't understand me....

surveymom, I know what you mean! I showed my sink pictures to my coworker, and then got embarrassed that she would think I'm a nut! LOL

squigs, I just cleaned out my sink and started to worry about those hard water stains - how much would it cost to put in a whole house water softener?

Only the GWers get totally excited by pictures of running water. Just looking at your GORGEOUS granite makes me all giddy!! Just us. Others think we're crazy :)

Show us more pics of other new stuff!! We need motivation and inspiration!

Annie - it can really range in price by a lot, so I would recommend getting a few estimates. We got ours in 1994, so I don't know if it can be fixed or we'll have to replace the system. Tomorrow morning the Sears guy comes out to look at it and then I guess we'll know. But I can tell you it's definitely worth it to have soft water. (except for your hair. my hair always looks better washed in hard water. don't know why that is!)
