Need advice on painted wall paper
Comments (3)After stripping the walls, it will most likely require skim coat to restore to smoothness. Use a perforation tool over the wallpaper. Soak it well with Chomp! and remove it. Removal of all paste residue must be done at this time. Wash walls with Dirtex to remove the paste. Prime any damaged areas of wall with GARDZ. Perform all patching or skim coating. Prime entire walls with GARDZ and then repaint to the desired color and texture. Michael...See MoreHow much wallpaper do I need to buy?
Comments (8)So how do we know that the drop match is 27 inches? How long is your bathroom. How wide is your bathroom? Did you arrive at the 27 feet by adding the four walls? If so, then multiplying by the 8-ft ceiling is correct. JMHO, but whoever wants to sell you 7 double rolls is wanting to sell more and whomever told you 3-1/2 double rolls (or 7 single rolls) is probably wrong. I think 5 double rolls is about right. Each wallpaper bolt (2 single rolls in most cases, 3 in very odd cases) will tell you what area in square feet it covers. Now if you have tile on the walls, you can subtract for that. If you have doors, windows, you can subtract for that. I just did a friend's 240 square ft bathroom using 5 double rolls and she had a 23-inch repeat. We had paper left over, about 1 double roll. Another factor is the paperhanger. Some will try to save your paper, whereas others will cut one length at a time and not care about wasting it. Good paperhangers, all, does not matter, will waste or save. I am going to say your wallpaper store probably is the most correct. Most companies encourage you to buy more for waste as sometimes, even experienced paper hangers will measure wrong, cut wrong, etc., and then if you have to order more paper, there is that chance the dye lots will not match....See MoreNeed Design Opinions -How much is too much sparkle??? Comments (43)I agree with Sue b, I really like the accent tile idea. I had a similar problem, took almost a year to decide. If one more person suggested white subway I was going to scream, just because it was essentially what I had just torn down! I got the same MOP sample as you have, (among others), but ended up with a linear stone backsplash to balance out my "blingy" granite. It provided the calming, organic balance I needed- it makes me happy! Hang in there, you will find what you are looking for!...See MoreWallpaper Opinions Needed!
Comments (55)hollybar-- and anyone else with grasscloth wallpaper-- do you have any pictures you'd be willing to share? I'm considering installing grasscloth wallpaper either above or below the chair rail in our dining room but am intimidated as I've never worked with wallpaper before. I need some encouragement! Originally I was thinking of adding it below the chair rail, but we have 3 cats so that could really be a disaster. The first house I bought as an adult had wallpapered bedrooms where the wallpaper had been painted over. The house was built in 1900 and I guess at some point a previous owner decided to paint over the wallpaper rather than remove it. I actually didn't mind the textured look... It was kind of interesting. Which was good because I sure wasn't about to try and strip off layers of paint and wallpaper....See Moretozmo1
