First, cool hanging light fixture :) What do you think of white Shaker cabinetry with concrete counters. I think the copper sink may be hard to decorate around; I can't really tell from the pics how dark the copper is, but if it's deep brown, then I think it'll go with the concrete. As for backsplash, glass subway tile is a nice contemporary look if you'd like to pull in a contemporary element. You could also go with white or pale gray tiles in something like 3 x 12 stack set. Then grout in white. Under cabinet lighting will make the glass tile sparkle if you opt for that. I'd stay away from marble, as much as I love it, because it may be too much of different stone types with the slate floor.

If it were my house.........I would find the black/white/grey/stainless to be too cold and monochromatic. While some of those colors could be easily changed, the countertops might have more permanence and therefore not the place for beginning a color scheme. Perhaps a white marble effect in a granite and a similar backsplash for the monochrome look?

Original Poster Update I've finally made a decision on cashmere carrara quartz countertop (MSI) and Masia Gris Claro tiles. I'm hesitant about the cashmere carrara because the photos I have seen vary so much and the sample is so small... If anyone has some real-life photos of the cashmere carrara countertop, I'd really love to see them. They are coming to do the templates in two days so I'd still have time to change my mind. Thanks!

We are building a home and picked 6mm Statuario for the kitchen countertops, backsplash and island. After installation , the only visible border is at the undermount sink. After talking to many people, we were wondering if we made the right decision, as now we feel 6mm is too thin and it may break or crack easily. It is installed on a Hardiback base. One problem has been getting the mitered edges just right and already the edge gas cracked twice. So now our question is- do we leave the 6mm as is or do we rip it all out and replace with 12 mm slab? Does anyone have any experience with 6 mm countertops and their ability to last in a kitchen?
