Need Help Choosing Navy and Lighter Blue Paint for Bedroom
Comments (12)Vavavoom, it might not be a bad idea to paint the whole room one color. After the stress of choosing this color, I may not be up to choosing a lighter blue as well. My husband wants me to paint the room this year!:) Thanks. Straitlover, thank you for sharing your experience. I don't want to go through that much trouble to get the paint tinted correctly, especially since it might not be successful. Maybe if I decide on a BM color, I'd be better off buying their paint. Lukkirish, thank you so much for posting the New Providence Navy Paint photo. The color looks very nice. I was going to buy some Behr paint tonight. Instead, I just had the primer tinted. I think I will wait until I can pick up a BM fandeck. Mine is the Preview one and doesn't have those colors. I will let you know how this works out. Thanks again for all of your very helpful suggestions....See MoreHI, Need help should I keep the blue chairs or paint the wall blue?
Comments (2)A few things which look “off” in your photos, but because you are not showing us al of the space, it is hard to judge. As is, your chandelier is hung too high and looks too big for the table. (1/2 size of table and around 34” off table top is preferred). The table looks as if it should be turned. The navy chairs are side chairs and not host chairs. Suggest two cane chairs on either side of table and a fabric slope arm chairs for the ends. Window need panels. I would not paint an accent wall. If you want blue, paint above the chair rail. Art for walls:...See MoreShould I paint cabinets navy blue? SW Naval or BM Newburyport blue?
Comments (28)The dark ceiling in the recessed area has to go - it just creates a black hole effect in an already dark area. A quick lick of primer and then white ceiling paint will make a difference there. The living room side of the peninsula appears to be a soft grey and seems to work with the rest of the area and the counters. Would you consider carrying that colour into the rest of the kitchen on the cabinets? Or, if you could find a slightly warmer version (more greige than grey), it might work really well with the floors and fight less with the brick. It sounds like you're currently stuck with the brick. When you do a remodel definitely plan to remove that as it is really bossing everything else in the room into playing along with it. I'd paint it or whitewash it and make it the same colour as whatever paint colour you choose for the cupboards. It won't disappear, but it might fade into the background a bit which would help. When you remodel I'd also find a different location for the frig. A frig door that opens into a doorway is such a pain - we had it for years at another house and I just detested it. I know the counters aren't really working with the brick but I would never counsel getting rid of them because they really do look gorgeous and you clearly do like them. If you can, it would likely be a great idea to find a local design consultant to come out and work with you for a few hours. Some definitely do hourly work, rather than a large job. They can help you pull a cohesive plan together on colours that would work best with the elements you have....See MoreIs navy blue vanity too dark
Comments (5)I agree with the commenters above - the cool floor is already fighting against the warm trim and vanity. I would consider painting the trim a cool white. You mention the bathroom is north facing. Definitely needs more and better light. I love navy blue. I have a large, solid navy blue rug. Unfortunately it's like black - it shows every single bit of dust and lint and fiber imaginable. That might not be a big deal as a paint color on a vanity. I would paint a large piece of wood the color you're thinking about then leave it in your bathroom for a couple of weeks. I think painting the vanity white would be lovely, and then you can add contrast, pattern and color with towels, rugs and the shower curtain. But I'm boring like that! It's a nice sized bathroom and it looks like everything is in good condition. Great starting place....See Moreflopsycat1
