antique tub with low filler? can this be salvaged/retrofitted?

We have two original cast iron tubs in our house. We are about to remodel the bathrooms and we'

re considering reusing one or both tubs. However, they have this low filler just a few inches up from floor of tub. I cannot find anything else like it after scouring internet - all other similar antique tubs have a "normal" filler a few inches from top of tub. I am wondering if anyone has seen a tub like this or knows if it would be possible to retrofit with modern plumbing/drain? We would just use a normal wall mounted filler, but not sure what to do with hole left by the original filler.

(ignore gross rust, I took cover off, but this actually still works!)
