Okay so I really need your guys help! The original pic I posted was of the current house b/c I wasnt able to get to the new house at the moment. The carpenter who did this doesn't seem to want to make the time to come and fix it... Please see pics of the new railing, inspector said just to do a straight cut on both pieces of wood and to place an "S" piece of wood to connect the two. But where the spindle is concerns me, I feel like the "S" would almost skip over the spindle, and we cannot remove the top spindle because then the opening between spindle and wall would be too big! Attaching pics-opinions please..... (Carpenter asked US to pick up the pieces??! We have no idea how to measure and what we're doing?!). What else would we need? I think the inspector mentioned something about a plate to go underneath where it connects? (and I guess that piece against the wall, will need to come off). Thank you in advance..

Doubt if code will even allow no railing ....and glass is the most unobtrusive railing possible...however this is also an opportunity for a lovely architectural design statement in this spot since there is so little space to do anything else....also how slippery do you think these steps will be?..may be better to have a real railing to hang onto if you slip

How about thick, vertical cables like these installed between the white sloped surface to the left of the staircase and the sloped ceiling directly above it, accompanied by handrails on the opposite walls, one leading upstairs and one leading downstairs? You could paint the cables an interesting color.

Stair and Entryway update Hi there, i have attached pictures of what the entry way now looks like, the new stairs are in and we have decided to go with a glass panel instead of spindles , with a black ebony stained wooden hand rail that will be incorporated into a post on the bottom and the railing will continue down the stairs to the basement. My husband managed to find some MDF and is making the flat panel doors for the closet, they will be sprayed White Dove , there will be 3 doors and also 3 doors up top. Could anyone please let me know what colour and type of door handles should go on all these doors. I was thinking that the 3 doors above should be touch doors so there won’t be a handle or knob and not so many handles in this little area. What do you think ? All the handles in the kitchen and living room cabinets are polished chrome and all the doors in the house have black lever handles. As you can see the 2 man doors have black levers. The walls will be White Dove and the stringers and trim will also be White Dove in pearl finish. Also I am at a loss as to a light fixture. The rest of the stairs will be finished once we get all the drywall downstairs and the laundry appliances so nothing will scratch them. great appreciate your help, thank you
