How can I pull off French Provence themed interior design in a 1 br

I purchased a condo and am looking at diff paint colors. I want a French Provence color theme but not sure how to pull that off in a 750 sq ft Manhattan apt. I was thinking painting the living room creamy yellow but some are disagreeing and saying it will be too much. And I was going for a light blue in the bedroom but I’m afraid that will make the room look darker and smaller. The apt is north facing with bright light coming in during the day. the floors are cherry hardwood. Any advice on how I can pull off a French Provence theme? Should I instead play around with accent walls? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Find a colorful art print that represents French Provence to start your color exploration. Art with bold or a more dreamy color scape will give you ideas for fabrics that will give you the recognizable cheery colors you are seeking. Yellow can be pulled off but may be scary for some people. Paint can be painted over if you want to go for it and you change your mind.

Find a tablecoth like in the picture and use it for inspiration at the paint store. A small wooden bistro table with cushioned chairs can transform a small corner. Pastel lavender represents lavender fields. Yellow the sun, blue the sky, green the trees. Painted furniture can also be used as away to bring in the beauty of color.

Stretchad, Do the kitchen the way you want. Once it's finished, you may look at the rest of the house with fresh eyes, and you may decide to redo the trim (I would replace rather than just paint). No matter which colour you choose for the kitchen, it's not going to make the 80's finish in the rest of the house go away. Unfortunately :>( We are doing a complete reno of a 70's house from top to bottom (not quite 3000 sq ft), and at the moment not one single room is untouched, ie every where is in disarray (well, except for the laundry room), if the ceiling hasn't been torn down, or the walls gutted, then the room is filled with boxes of flooring, new toilets to be installed, furniture and boxes from some other room being worked on... so I feel your pain! Really, if all you need to do is replace trim to update your whole house, you're laughing!

Well I thought I would follow up with a few pics of the final result. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. As you may recall, this was the second of the properties we put an offer on, and the final result ended up looking a bit less French and Provencal than our first property choice, and maybe more urban and Cote d'Azur than the descriptions above (and smaller!). I still have to tweak. Due to challenges in sourcing overseas and the limitations of budgets and sources, some stuff (art, accessories) are not what I'd like it to be eventually. Think we could use a bench in the master, as well, and I'd like to play around with the furniture layout. Oh, and we had a larger table on order for the balcony, this one will move to the side if we go ahead with the replacement. Please excuse the staging. The photos below are from our listing but are better than the iphone pics that I have from our local contacts. Roarah, it's nice to see a different spin on the idea. I love the floor and the hood, and especially the light. I'm sure people in Provence update their kitchen too, and some of them must go modern. Sochi, that wallpaper is gorgeous, and the colors tie together nicely. The 1st kitchen April posted is what would be in my ideal vacation rental in Provence. April, I wasn't sure what you were referring to when you said, "so..where is the house? is it a specific house? or an imaginary one? does it exist and if yes where can I see it?" Did you mean the original post? The Design Around This threads are mostly purely theoretical: Design a colonial kitchen, a Craftsman kitchen, a French Country kitchen. Do a kitchen in pink. Use a bold colored tile. Use a piece of artwork as inspiration. Although, one time we did have people pick a specific real estate listing and design a kitchen for that specific house (everyone chose their own listing).

Ya, here is the dilleo. We met and talked for probably 3hrs. He has budgetted amounts for each item of the house build. i.e. excavation, cement, framing, kitchen fixtures, and basement (to my suprise) was an extra price. All good though. He is a great guy , i get the feeling. Won't know of course til were all done. I have gone and talked to people he built for and they all say what a great guy he is. I am leaving most if not all decisions about kitchen and bath fixtures to my sig other. She already has it in mind that she wants a walk in shouwer for our master bath. Said "were getting older ." She is , im not. But, ya, lots of decisions. He said as far as counter tops go , you could do 5 laminate tops for the price of a quartz or anything else. So, i guess , the laminate is the better choice. Yes, we are on a very tight budget. Home is only 1200 sq ft. Im bringing est. to the bank and letting loan officier there look at the prices. She deals with this all the time. Hopefully. We'll have composit flooring in kitchen and hallway. Carpet in bedrooms and sometype of waterproof flooring in bathrooms. Here's a question for the group : Country setting so, lp gas. Question: Woodstove down the basement, or heatmore outside ?? Love the idea of a woodstove downstairs in the den for those cold winter nights. Heats the whole house. And just a cozy feeling. Buddy has a heatmore. He loads that up and it brings hot water through a radiator in his furnace and heats his house and......... hot water What say ye all ???

I would go with softer tones of yellow and blue and cream. A great yellow for interiors is BM’s Hawthorne Yellow. If that is too intense for your space, try something like Creme Froth. Depending on your light, creams can read yellow. Don’t do something TOO yellow in your small space. Think checks and toile for your fabrics. Fresh, light, airy.

I think you are going more for a French country look than French Country look and IMO a pale yellow for the walls woulf be very nice along with lots of creamy whites for trim etc.
