My opinion only -- the wood doors, while I personally love wood garage doors, bring all the attention to the garage, which generally isn't desired.

I agree with Lindsey. The wood does pull your focus. It also looks a little "off" to me with the gray roof. Based on your photo, it seems anything other than white is going to bring the garage front and center.

White carriage doors with black hardware could be nice. Would you consider black for the front door and some black accessories (pots, bench, etc.)?

I honestly like wood as well.
It will bring attention to the garage and if you don’t want that then go white.

I would just like to know how far along is the construction or are you still in the design phase ?

break ground a week from Tuesday so still can make changes. i was just told that garage doors are taking 5-6 months so i have to order shortly. @Mark Bischak, Architect and @Patricia Colwell Consulting , what are yoir suggrstions to make the front look more cohesive? i dont want a black and white farmhouse but something more modern french country and softer.

Like Mark said, off topic, but those garage gables dominant the whole house. Especially since you have some well proportioned gables elsewhere. It's the first thing that attracts my eye anyway. Any way to scale those down?

I think the reactions you are getting are due having that large double gable over the garage that seems to take over the whole look of the house. A third of your front facade is dominated by the garage gable. Do you have living space over the garage and under that gable that required all that height?

If you are breaking ground in a week, I think your time for major changes, like redesigning the roof over your garage, has passed.

I would try to call as little attention to the garage as possible and would do it all in brick with white carriage house style garage doors.

Also when looking at the rendering, I wouldn't do as much cement driveway as they have shown. It also highlights the garage. Don't make is as wide as they did, so that it goes beyond the garage wall.

I think that's an improvement. At least the gable is smaller.

Better in that you see some roof, not all high gable. Yes.

Other options would be like no gable (pic 1 below) at all or just a small gable sitting on roof like 2nd pic below

Ask about the color of the back door so we can suggest improvements on the other three elevations.

The first picture you posted looks like it has a garage from a different house tacked onto your house. So yeah, changing its gables is a good thing.

I actually drew that up quickly yesterday but didn't post it because I thought the house looked too lopsided. For that to work best the garage needs to be pushed back maybe five or six feet so the house becomes more dominant and it's own element.

Thank you @Architectrunnerguy! The garage is actually set back but very hard to tell from the angle of that rendering.

I'm going to suggest white for the garage door regardless of the elevation changes that you make. Garage doors should match the body of the house when they are this prominent. Painting them the same color as the house will help reduce it's impact.

My second suggestion is to select copper gutters and downspouts. It will frame the home.
