What is this room missing? Pics
Comments (22)Hi all, Thank you for your ideas. I've been writing them all down. Les I think you're totally right, warm tones is what's missing. I really like your ski hat idea and plywood headboard. Do you have any pattern suggestions that would look good with the bedding? What color shade? His desk and hutch are black if that helps any. Newhomebuilder is correct about his room. We removed everything off the walls before getting the room painted. It's only been a few weeks and DS is waiting for his desk and hutch to come in before putting everything back. The lamp is definitely too short but it was meant to be temporary. As far as letting him decide he really could care less. He's 14 and everytime I ask him what he'd like in his room he just looks at me like I'm an alien. DH gets a good laugh everytime I say to DS "You really don't care what I put in the room?". His response "who cares, I just sleep in there" followed by a "mom, just so long as my bed stays comfortable". He does like the snowboarding decal and I think around his arched window would look cool. His BR definitely gets a ton of natural light but he prefers the cave like feel and never opens his shutters. If I painted the lower half a darker gray I think he'd stub his toe on the way to his bathroom. That's if he doesn't slip and fall on the dirty laundry laying all over his floor. Teenagers can be so disgusting. ideefix very wise advice, I let that hang up go 10 years ago. Teacats DD(16) is getting silver framed corkboard for her room. I hadn't thought about that for DS but that would work in his room. When you say silver kitchen shelving do you mean standing ones?...See MoreSomething is missing from my living room and I'm not sure what...
Comments (36)Hi all, it has been a while but thought I'd update you on my progress. I've taken a lot of the comments on board (other than switching the painting as we love this painting), and I'm getting there. But I'm still struggling to pull everything together. I do still need to change the curtains to floor length ones, but I have no idea what colour/pattern to go for, so any suggestions would be very much appreciated! I've tidied up the bookshelves, built up the mantel, and we've finally installed our wooden flooring, I swapped the corner chair for a rocking chair and think everything feels a lot neater now and less chaotic. As you can see, I ditched the red couch cover - the red and blue was too jarring for me. But now I think the green couch along with the blue chair is too much? If so, what should I do? Both are IKEA and can have their covers replaced, I just don't know what colours to go for...maybe a light blue for the couch? I also think I should change the grey walls to a cream? It's an East facing room so I'm limited on what wall colours I can use but I feel the grey is too cold and flat in the evening. I'm thinking it's my colour scheme that's stopping everything from feeling coherent, but it could be other things I'm not picking up on? Please ignore that half the tiles are missing from the fireplace, haven't got round to fixing them yet, also the plant has seen better days and I'm slowly nursing it back to health after it was attacked repeatedly by our kitten. Thanks all....See MoreLiving room decor & layout....what's missing?
Comments (21)I think I'm going to start with mantle and artwork and would like to add blue as an accent. The rest of the room will be easier to fall into place. I'd like to paint the existing mirror white to better match, I like the size and style. Eventually I will get console cabinets for either side of the fireplace. What do you think? I'm ready to check out on most of these items!! I feel like I'm heading in the right direction. (My posts keep disappearing, so going to split up pictures separately)....See MoreAm I missing anything in my laundry room/mud room layout?
Comments (18)Thank you, Anna, Kim, and Tanya. Your advice is very helpful. RNmom, I think because straightening the wall in that bedroom would make it less than 11" wide? I'm not sure. It does look a little weird. And I agree on taking out the double sinks in the kids' bath. We had them in the last house and they still were only in there one at a time. :-) We are in the midwest also (just moved back after 12 years in the South), and I was thinking I would move the coat closet up and put it across from the lockers. We need a coat closet for the big winter stuff, and the one in the foyer we'd never use since it's so far away. I really don't need lots of cabinets in the laundry/mudroom. I think the closet would be more useful....See Morejck910
