window leaks when it rains
Comments (10)What I could fine about the window on the bill- All new wood framework and moulding. Not sure if it says low E or F glass with argon gas. It was somewhat hard to read. The window is wood on the inside vinyl outside. We paid just over 3000.00. The label I found on the window says, NAMI, NFRC 100/200, code ACU, rating, NFRC, series, 2001 casement, MST 18411. NFRC, ACU 1-12, 05-M Double Glazed, Blend Fill Not sure who the exact manufacturer is. We did not get competitive estimates, just about every one in this neighborhood has used this company for their windows that is why we went with them. The man who came and sold us the window has been out and he is telling me that it is the stone work and not the window causing the leak. I have tried to explain that the stonework never leaked with the oringinal window. I have mentioned that I would like a new window but that is when he keeps going back to the stone and saying because now that it is bow window water is getting in. I don't agree with him. I am fed up. I guess I will try and find out more about the manufacturer and get in touch with them. Thank you for the help. Comments (4)We are having the same the oroblem. Our first floor window lieaks above the top from the frame. This 1st story window is directly below the 2nd floor window. We have caulked the second story window and caulked the brick mortar. It still leaks when we have a blowing rain, The first level window frame is slightly damaged but the window above it is fine, It has to be coming from the 2nd floor because the first level has a nice dry wrap around porch protecting it, Thanks...See MoreMy french door leak from the top can anyone help?
Comments (8)I can't tell much without good photos, so I'll mention one cause. I gather these are outside doors that leak when it rains and do not always leak, but may depend on wind direction. This symptomatic of missing flashing under the siding over the door frame. When the house was sided, flashing should have been placed over the door frame to direct water outward, and then the siding goes over the flashing. The flashing under the siding should go up the wall for enough distance to prevent wind from driving water up and over the flashing. Also, the flashing should be one piece. If the flashing was patched together by overlapping 2 shorter pieces, it can leak at the overlap. There should be present a "drip lip", a feature that prevents water from running back under an overhang. First, you must identify where and how the water is entering and then plan preventive measures. When everything is dry, use a garden hose to splash water on the outside and over the doorway. Inspect to see where the leak is....See MoreWater leak between top of window frame and drywall
Comments (8)"if you are getting water from your roof or from behind the siding for that matter, you will get water through any window opening regardless of how well its sealed." That would mean flashing is useless. The whole point of flashing is to keep water that has penetrated the siding from entering the house at the window. All exterior claddings pass some rainwater....See MoreMarcos
