Please help me figure out my bathroom floor!
Comments (3)Hello Marcia, Sorry to come so late to this party. I know you said that your husband likes "uniform finishes" but I'd like to suggest a tile which I installed a while back and was very pleased with the results. There is a subtle pinstripe to the tile, but you (and your husband) may find that you like the variation better than a monochrome? It's a rectified porcelain from Walker Zanger called "Groove" and it's available in 7 colors in 18"x18' field and 4"x18" bullnose trim. Here are a couple shots of the project I installed. The color was "Lava", the darkest in the series. This first shot is a close up of the shower pan mosaic I cut down from the 18" field tiles. (The tiles are skewed because I haven't racked them into line yet) This next is a view with the white wall tile for contrast. Just thought it might be worth considering? Comments (15)You must be in my neighborhood! Seriously, your baths are SO similar to ours in our 1964 house. Here's what we have done: Master bath--was Pepto Bismol pink. We had it reglazed in white and it's holding up well. We had the tiny tile floor ripped up and redone. Upstairs hall bath--was baby boy blue. DH tackled this one (very unusual!) by ripping out the floor and taking down the tile. He installed white beadboard and a new floor. The tub is the same exact style you have, which really is a high quality cast-iron tub. I hate the cliche that they "don't make things like they used to", but in this case, I really think it's true. This tub holds the heat like no other. It's worth saving, either as is, or having it professionally reglazed. First floor half-bath--DH painted the tiles with a latex paint in a beige and we then had the floor redone by a professional. We added another full bath in the basement area and used a one-unit tub/wall combo (not nearly as good at holding heat as the cast iron tub upstairs). We did tile on the walls and floors. Check out professional tile reglazing in your Yellow Pages. It will tide you over until you can tackle a reno. My advise is this: keep the cast iron tubs, but change out the faucets to a "mixer valve", which is fairly inexpensive. Good luck. I did all I could do to live w/ the pink and blue. No matter what I did it screamed "60's"!...See MorePlease help me hang my bathroom mirror
Comments (21)On pure aesthetics the lower example pleased my eye more, and then I read your post! Imagine that .... I'll tell you what would please my eye even more -- being able to see myself! (vanity, thy name is ME) I think it's a more interesting composition having the mirror lower, and I think it's even more interesting if you're able to see yourself. But scrolling back up and reading others responses I am just one in a long line who feels this way. How do you feel? And on a totally different topic, I am so envious of your grand piano. I play exceedingly poorly and I've lived without a piano for years, but a girl can dream .... My two year-old has recently discovered the piano (at a little play class we take together), and watching him tickle (okay, pound) the ivories made me emotional. (I'm studying the banjo and already the two year-old makes prettier sounds on it than I!) So with your outdoor fireplace and your indoor piano I am going to live vicariously through you! amysrq, my hero!...See MoreHelp me figure out if my kitchen can be improved?
Comments (21)@everdebz Yes it is a country style (not my style) - this is the house I'm buying so I plan to repaint in white (more modern/minimalist style). I do have to repaint kitchen cabs anyway - they look a lot better in the photo but in reality have a lot of peeling paint. Countertop will also have to be replaced as it is concrete painted with peeling paint. Here are some photos of the bathroom. The area with 3 squares is a free standing vanity thing. Next to the other vanity thing that holds two sinks. I love the idea of making it a closet! I prefer "clean" spaces and the multiple vanity things in the master bath aren't my favorite. Where would you put an office? Also pic of the other side of the kitchen with side view of pantry (the thing that bothers me)...See MoreSusan H
