Calling all color mavens…

This is Part 2 of Vintage Orange Rug, Now What? Many of you suggested velvet or leather. There was a suggestion of navy. My entire life, I thought this rug was primarily orange and black. Now that I’m looking more closely, I’m seeing that the black section is either navy or black mixed with navy. What are you seeing? I’m also seeing a small amount of a salmon/terracotta — is it enough to pull that color into the couch or walls? I also wanted to pull in two more elements — the original fireplace (very muted greyish with a touch of mauve) and the stained glass windows. Anything
we can pull from there?

Seriously, yes, I see navy and terra cotta in the rug. Love them both! Still thinking an orange/terra cotta/peach velvet sofa would be stunning, but navy would be great, too.

I am so in love with those windows, I can’t take it! And roses outside of them? Ahhh. 😍

ETA: You probably see a notification from me and think, NOT HER AGAIN IS THERE A BLOCK FEATURE HERE?!

I see navy, though I was in the camp of folks who thought that navy would work fine even if it were black. I also see salmon/terra cotta in the rug in addition to the orange.

I'm generally more flexible with color matching when the colors are on a different plane (ceiling vs. wall. vs. floor). Light is going to fall on those surfaces differently, so even if they are exactly the same color they are going to look different because the light falls on them differently. One reason I wasn't so concerned about a black/navy mismatch.

There isn't a lot of color in the stained glass, not a large area anyway, and it's in front of the colors from what's outside the window, so I don't really see that driving your choices.

I already mocked up a bunch of stuff for you, and I have the files saved. If you have a paint color and/or sofa you want to mock up, let me know and I can throw it into a collage.

I think the rejected colors are just not on their list. For me, they took orange, apricot, lime, and peach, but not raspberry. They took puce and hot pink, but not sage. Maybe if I'd added "green" to sage? They didn't take brick, but again, maybe I should have added "red."

Cozy - Kid Friendly. Mixed room use I suppose. Kids dungeon and secondary media room. Paint should be on the lighter side of coziness and not too dark-cozy. There is the white quartersawn stairs, with the walnut built in running that bank of the wall. Add the flooring and that is lot of wood to contend with. Aside from the custom cabs being built, all the other furnishings was sorta dependent on paint - the upholstery at least. I know ya'll have said you can always repaint, but I'm more the latter. For example, the built in that is running underneath the stairs, the top 1/3 of it is open cubed shelving. Whatever paint I paint it now, will be the color that is there till it get's ripped out or professionally disassembled. You will be able to see through this open shelving. I suppose I could hire someone with long arms and is flexible to repaint between the open spaces. Same goes for the furniture. It will probably be a large sectional with chaise and 2 or 3 chairs - upholstry tbd . If ya'll are wondering what's up with the tiled floor - we got flooded, I ended up ripping 10" Wide Plank flooring and lower 2' of rock. I don't want the space to feel like a waterproof pool with the new tiled floor ;-)

Thank you all for the suggestions! It's an older kitchen...and all this ivory/almond color probably looked much better with the wood cabinets. But with the white paint, it all just looks dirty. Mudhouse- LOL! So true about the lavender! :) We thought about a sage green and I think we'll be using that as an accent color. Just not sure I can live with it all green, but my mom would love it! Oh, forgot to mention the windows face north. But, there is a slider, so more natural light than I have now. And access to the deck/yard. When I first started collecting kitchen pictures (as a kid, seriously! LOL) they were this color with wood floors...and antique brass hardware. My mom always called them almond and amaretto...for cabinets and floors. It's a nice combination and looks great with lots of plants! :)

I wanted to follow up on a few points. First of all, i never realized that "American Buttercream" is what we've made since I was a kid, ie the recipe on the 10x sugar box! Too funny. I did a lot of internet searches on how to make sure your buttercream is "sturdy enough" for the look I want, and I tested it over easter by making some cupcakes and frosting. I ended up using this recipe: https://www.lifeloveandsugar.com/vanilla-buttercream-icing/ It uses a combo of butter and shortening, to which my DH said "blech" when we had to run out to the store to get some. But everyone loved the icing and the texture was perfect. I also added 1T of meringue powder, based on other recipes I had seen. I had to buy a special M1 tip, and it takes some getting used to, but these were the first ones (i used one book that was a little misshapen for my trial; even left in overnight the ink on the book did not run). I also experimented with putting stripes in the piping bag; i loved this and will try again with much thinner stripes.
