Pls help: Picture moulding odd size windows

I could use some professional help lol…in more ways than one;)

We’re in a new build and I’d love to put up picture moulding but am struggling with design because of these windows being so high. Any suggestions would be apprectiated. The photos a attached are the room with the windows, photos of taped up ideas I came up with, the model, and the overall look I’m going for. I’ll be painting the room a dark gray. I am a have to see a picture kind of person and I just haven’t found anything with these style of windows.

I should also add that the top rectangle is the size of the window

Picture molding is not appropriate for the style of your home. Your home is contemporary in design and picture molding is a traditional house detail.

You could do board and batten details on your walls. See various samples below.

Thanks everyone for your input!! The final decisions were: 1st Door--I prefer the middle door-very simple with elegant understated lines, but DH likes the added privacy the iron lends to the door, so privacy trumps simple & elegant. Living 1000 ft off the road and around a corner on 45 acres isn't private enough, I guess. DH says if we don't like it once we move in, we'll change it out--time will tell. Kitchen Window--I ended up with a small reprieve here as questions came up on other windows when they went to place the order today, so any changes have to be made tomorrow. Our decision was to go with the standard window (no arch). There will be no window treatments on this window. My thought was that if I didn't like the way it looked, I could add an arched cornice board that would extend to the ceiling that matches the cabinetry to give a visual arched look like this: Then I got to thinking about athensmomof3 & chisue's responses about the 3 casements. I have an inspiration picture (posted below), but not sure on the sizes shown or even if the side units are a different size than the middle unit. I did call the cabinet guy & verified my cabinet specs. I would be able to do the 3 casements to form an arch, but it will be tight. Technically, I've got 58.5" of space available for the window (3.25" trim already taken into consideration). My options on window widths would be: A) 12" - 24" - 12" (proportionally, this one might be a little too tall for the specced width) B) 16" - 24" - 16" C) 18" - 18" - 18" Any thoughts? Tile experts (+everyone!) pls help- tile this window/wall?

Budge, THANK YOU. I think the window looks great with the tile and I'm going to have my contractor do the same thing. Did you use 6" bullnose on the inside of the window? I only ordered 3" but I think the 6" looks great. I wonder if I could use non-bullnosed tile on the inside of the window (run the same direction as yours) and put 3" bullnose on the outside, so that the grout line would be inside the window rather than outside...hm. I'd still need 6" bullnose for the top and bottom, but not as much. As for the bump in the wall, I went home and measured tonight and the brick does extend a good 4-5". SO, I'm stuck with the double bump. I think I am just going to tile over (to the ceiling!!!), inside and around the window and then start painting when I hit the bump. Well, after working to finish the laundry and garage cabinets and then being away May through July, the curtains are finally up and I thought I'd post a follow-up. Thanks to all for the advice, because I think having the rod hang at the bottom of the soffit looks great! The aqua curtains go very well with my "all aqua, all the time" kitchen and the polished nickel rod is similar to the handles on the DW, range, and fridge. I put the rod wide enough to be able to show the wood trim around the doors. Also, while looking for curtain rods, I found the most adorable little bird finials also in aqua! Yes, I'm a sucker for cuteness-in-aqua. Thanks again for your help!

Need help designing odd shaped multi-use room (pictures in comments)

Maybe your dining table down near the french doors, then a round table or ottoman for games with four small scale swivel easy chairs just to the right of the fireplace. You could then turn a chair (or two) to kind of face the fireplace when you want to cozy up and read - it doesn't appear you have enough room right in front of the fireplace for this arrangement without impeding the walkway. Then add a sectional or sofa and more chairs in a conversation at the other end. If you had a couple of chairs with their backs to the bathroom, with room to walk behind them, then the two game table swivel chairs closest to the sectional/sofa could be swiveled to face that conversation area if needed.These are larger than what it appears you have room for, but you get the idea.

The height of your doors, ceilings, windows are pretty low compared to most spaces that use this kind of molding. However, the first two inspiration pics you used nailed it by putting the molding below a chair rail. I think you should play around with more of a horizonal molding scheme that falls below a chair rail height. Kudos to you for your creativity and vision.

I think it depends on what room this is and how your furniture and art will be placed. I'd know that for sure before you start adding any type of molding.

They are 9 ft ceilings with no crown on them. I can see how adding vertical lines would make it feel taller, draw your eye up and more board and batten to fit the style of the house.

This is the formal dining room off the front door but I’ll be puting my upright piano and a couple of chairs or couch depending on size instead of a table. We have a breakfast nook with extendable table and off that a sunroom screened in that we’ll be putting another table for outdoor dining so we can eat without bugs bothering us.

Wow, 9" is really high. I would not have guessed. Are these two pictures of the same room? Where do the two closed doors lead to? Picture frame molding feels like an elevated look and these doors seem very casual and not as inspired as the rest of the space. Would you consider swaping them out for doors that would look better with picture molding?

Oh im sorry my photos must be confusing. The first photo is the actual space, the photos with the blue tape are of our temp apartment until the house is done. I just wanted to do a mock up but not in the new house. The 2 photos below the blue tape are the same room but its from the model so not how we decorate.

That makes more sense. In that case, I wouldn't add any molding to that wall. The white window frames will be plenty of contrast with dark gray paint. You can always add something later if you want to, but once your furniture is in, and you have some art on the walls, you likely won't need anything else. Maybe you can use your molding idea for a bedroom or entry wall.
