I completely agree with you, jerzeegirl. Isn't the whole point of a backsplash to protect the wall behind the countertops? I think it would look even siller to have that much counter hanging out there past the cabinets and backsplash. But I also do think it isn't very good design to have the top and bottom cabinets not line up when all you have is a stretch of wall on the other side or some other feature that acts as a natural stopping point. So I like the idea of adding shelves to the end of the top row of cabinets. Then there is no question about where to end the tile.

We do have a slice of a water view, but we built it in the back, facing SE, because we wanted a place to get away from the afternoon sun and after dark mosquitoes. flyleft, the table came from one of the fine stores of the TJX companies, it was made in India and I just loved the muted gold color and shape. Also, WRT the tilting of the pics, yikes, sorry, I can't see it, and it's surprising that they are tilted to the right, I'm a full on left tilter IRL (wink). cyn427, we looked at Hurd and I think you are correct, Cinnamon Toast and Boysenberry are very close. Why would one keep the screen or cabinet door open when not in use. I am of the opinion that television screens are not attractive. Many people go to lengths to hide them including cabinets with lifts that go up or down so the television is not on view when not in use. I deliberately built a cabinet to hold my television during my remodel which acts as a large room divider between my office and the more formal part of my living room. It has what I call a stripper pole television so the television can be viewed from both sides and there are doors on both sides to disguise it when not in use. There is a television on the market which looks like a large frame - literally - and so it displays a piece of art/photo of your choice. So it looks like framed art instead of a television when not in use. My bedroom has a standard wall hung television but that's my private area with the wall visible from the bed. People routinely pull drapes or shades up or down and perform other acts so not sure why shutting a cabinet door is more of an issue. Is this screen in fact a rare antique. There are a lot of reproductions of items or even vintage items that are not particularly valuable and it's not necessarily a blasphemy to alter them from their original purpose. For me, it's solely an economic, functional and aesthetic decision. If the screen isn't worth thousands of dollars why not convert to a use that is both functional and aesthetic.

Kaya the thing that turns Farmhouse or Modern Farmhouse into Industrial Farmhouse are components like heavier metals, metal trimmed out furniture with rivets, heavy beams, pulleys or industrial style wheels on furniture factory style light fixtures (your island pendents) etc. The term can be thought of this way. It is basically an old factory that is turned into housing but farm style added. If that makes sense. Exposed brick can be one, but this goes with several decor styles so I wouldnt want you to think , I love exposed brick that means I like industrial. I may not be describing this well so I googled definition and they say what I am but better LOL "Industrial farmhouse style combines comfortable and welcoming farmhouseatmosphere with the edgy, rugged lines of industrial style.
