How can we make room for our new addition in our small house?
Comments (2)^Agree with eld6161. First priority is the baby (congrats!). Use one of the secondary bedrooms for the nursery. Next is your husband's gaming space and a distant third is entertaining overnight guests. I know the need to nest is strong, especially during pregnancy, but I don't think taking on the basement rehab now is a good idea. As mentioned above, put those guests on a sofa bed or in a nearby hotel until you get the basement reno done - after the baby is born. Do the basement reno when time and budget permit which may be longer than a couple of years :)...See MoreHow Should we Style the Trim Around our Windows?
Comments (11)Thanks for the input, everyone. Irene - thank you for sharing the pic. I fell in love with the trim and that's what we're going with. Elizabeth- once you mentioned too modern not to have casing, I looked at it from that viewpoint and I agree. Girl: the reason for deep sill is probably an added layer of insulation, as is the case with my room. Ours is a split-level ranch, and this new bedroom was previously a double integral garage. The windows are where the garage doors used to be. Once we studded out the walls and added a thick layer of insulation, the result is these deep set windows. I personally love it because any extra space for more plants is a plus in my book! This reno allowed us to create a large 4th bedroom, and a nice size mudroom/laundry room on the other side of the bedroom wall. I'm very excited :)...See MoreJust bought our first house... what should we do with this exterior??
Comments (15)Have you considered a larger more sheltered entryway? Do seriously consider putting a roof between the left (garage) wing of the house and the right wing of the house for a larger covered portico, and adding porch/portico lighting in the ceiling of the new portico/porch. As you extend the roof, put your support posts literally against the inner sides of the two wings of the house (rather than crowding the entryway with posts closer together). ... One option would be to extend the roof on the right wing of the house: https://willophx.com/home-tour/ ... Another option would be to create a hip roof portico (preferably without the double bulky posts) : https://www.georgiafrontporch.com/portfolio_category/hip-roof/#prettyPhoto[gallery2935]/0/ ... Another option would be to create a rounded front for a flat roof of the portico, https://in.pinterest.com/pin/490610953134023345/ ... with the rounded part front of the flat (or nearly flat) portico roof extending in front of the front exterior wall of the house so it shelters the rounded front steps. By making the roof top of the portico deeper between its upper part (roof/balcony) and its lower part (ceiling), (with or without a railing), you could bridge the distance between the height of the two roof lines....See MoreHelp!
