Need more help - Choosing sun/rain cover for deck
Comments (7)We used clear Lexan. I wanted flat plexiglass, but it's not strong enough and the wind splintered the test panel, so we had to go with the corrugated stuff. If your pergola has a lot of slats, the corrugation does not show much. Pros: It's nice to have a dry patio. The smokers go out there all year round and don't get wet. It lets in lots of natural light so that the house is not gloomy. Plants LOVE it- I call it my magical spot. Cons: It's loud in the rain if it's not well supported (mine's not). It's corrugated. It's hot in the summer because unless there's a breeze, it traps heat (we had to plant trees). It gets dirty if you don't have much of a roof slope and you have to hose it off. It sags if you don't have support more than every two feet (if you use it lengthwise). You have to make sure you build the support square, or your corrugations will go cattiwampus. Some build a solid roof for a few feet to keep water off the house and away from the sliding doors then leave the rest open with just slats. If my roof was not so low to begin with, I would have done that. Renee...See MoreDecorative Ironwork: Which do you like best? (photos to choose)
Comments (56)Ah ha!! Gotcha : ) Here it is a bit smaller, and then a distant shot of the first, larger one. Now I'm thinking the larger one is fine and has more presence and definition. Maybe in between? I tried some of those curved iron accents I've seen at ending positions or posts (but can't remember the details, so it just shows the general look.) And, ya know, a piece of gray flagstone on top of those columns and even across the wall looks great and ties nicely with the roof and drive. I would think you could fit the moulding piece around the gutter area, hiding it. As a front cap sort of thing. It's a design problem to work out : ) Have to figure any water issues in. Do you have a closeup or drawing of the area, how the pieces and planes are currently fitting together? Should pull a distant shot of the larger size in also....See MoreColor Dilemma - Awning and Deck for brick house
Comments (7)How about a cross between a grey/brown like SW Urbane Bronze? It's a very sophisticated color and could play nicely with the brick and roof. Paint the trim a cream color? I dislike stark white trim and agree with apple that it's a pain to keep clean. Cream would at least be a little more forgiving. Choose one of the blues for the front door. That teal appears to be too dark (wish I could see it because I'm painting mine a teal color!) Maybe go with the "Rain." Whatever you do, paint sample boards first!...See MoreBathroom Layouts - which one will you choose? Move Door?
Comments (13)Maybe something like this: The biggest concern is the space in front of the toilet. The code is that you need 22" clearance in front of the toilet. My powder room is 4'2" deep and I just barely have 22" clearance. In your case, with this layout you have 1" to spare (maybe less if the wall between the tub and the toilet is more than 4" thick). BTW, the space I used for this layout is 95"x138" (I added 4" for the wall between the closet and the bathroom). So I am not sure if in total you have 134 or 138 inches available. EDIT: If your japanese tub is slightly bigger than 40", a tankless toilet could help preserving the 22" required in front of the toilet: EDIT2: To make it more open, the wall separating the tub and the toilet does not need to be full height. It could be just high enough so that you don't see the toilet when seated in the tub....See MoreMichelle NJ
