Need help for the exterior of a Garrison Colonial please!
Comments (1)You have created your problem by yourself in your head. It looks fine. Go to the decorating forum and get suggestions for a front door/shutter color. As a landscaping suggestion, I would delete the huge looming pine tree, the house will look much better without it....See MoreDutch Colonial - exterior help needed
Comments (7)I would get a new front door and lantern lights 1/3 of its height (add matching lights flanking the garage door instead of the motion spot,) add a walk out to the front curb, close up the windows on the garage door, and improve the landscaping with curved beds flanking the asphalt and walk. You should consider painting the dormers to match the roof shingles and recede. They are the first thing I saw, then the garage, and last your front door. That's backwards....See MoreHow would you improve the exterior of this Garrison Colonial?
Comments (9)Yikes! Removing four large trees? Hope you have some budget left. :-( I think you can achieve your inspiration pic. Love how the paint on your brick has weathered off. Re the azaleas, once you cut down the trees, you should have more light. Cut the azaleas practically to the ground and they will come back in a few years to full bushes again. If not, then start over. Spraying them for azalea scale once they are back will help them thrive. Lots of fun projects ahead for you....See MorePlease help! Updating Exterior of our Garrison Colonial
Comments (2)I am in the same boat. We have a Garrison Colonial that needs an update. I think the best approach is a full front porch (also the most expensive options) but since we just added a screen porch to the back, I am looking for a less expensive options. I am considering adding a awning style portico held up with corbels to the front or perhaps a trellis above the windows to help disguise the overhang. I am also considering ditching the shutters around the door and adding some white panels to make the door look bigger, adding wider trim around the windows and eliminating the shutters altogether, changing the siding, and perhaps adding a panel or window box under the window. Below are a few ideas, I am considering perhaps they might work for you. I would love to see what you decide to do. Below are some of the ideas that might work for you. Not sure what you call this style portico, matches better with the roof line. Maybe a trellis above the windows to hide overhang...See MoreHALLETT & Co.
