The two bay windows seem to be centered with the upstairs double windows. To compensate for the entry and window above it being "off " and for the wider space between the door and the bay on the right, I would drop the sidelight idea and put a wide single door to the far right of the present door's location. Brick up the gap with similar style (if not the same color) brick, but paint it all. Then add a porch and roof that visually center things between the two bays. Maybe removing the roofs from the bays will help focus the eye on the new porch, or let the new porch span over the bay windows as celerygirl showed. The symmetry of the linear hedge is just accenting the asymmetry of the building. Pull that out and landscape with plantings that help disguise the imbalance.

I am a HUGE fan of Timberlane shutters in PA. The quality of these shutters is extraordinary. I have had them on my house now for 16 years - had them painted by my local painter, still look great. My DD got them about 3 years ago and they now offered the color she wanted in a factory paint job. The rep told me that these same shutters had been on the outside of their building in PA (harsh winters there!) now for 19 years and still looked great. One of the things they offer is copper guards that slip right on top of the shutter. Shutters tend to rot from water getting into the seams where the shutter dowels are held. This prevents that from happening. I think this is part of their success. Yes, they are expensive, but they will last for many decades with little if any maintenance required.

can you post a picture of the roof color you're getter? pewter can have blue/gray tones, or brown tones Right now, in your picture, I see regular red brick paired w/a very cool tone siding color. almost looks like a lavender gray. which direction is the front of your house facing? North? East? let me show you a few before and afters , some of which have the replaced windows. see what you're drawn too this frist one did exactly what you want to do to your arch windows. Doesn't look bad. a slightly diff style home though. I like the addition in the gables, the painted brick, updated front door another one w/the rectangles. don't care for it here. I'd do a larger window (black one) and close up the rest of it this one is similar. they removed the arch and didn't replace it. covered it w/the shake. limewashed the brick, took down the arched entryway. added the shutters. looks a bit more french country a bit more modern w/the black windows, wood garage door. new windows (Rombio Classico on the brick) They kept the arch, but removed the grids. along w/the painted brick, wood accents, black windows, it really looks updated

It seems to me that you have a couple of style features on this exterior that are in opposition. I know it has the outlines of a garrison colonial, but the modern windows and the siding obscure that and really make me think more modern, at first glance. The colonial front door doesn't match. Even though it wouldn't be your first or even second choice, I would go with that modern vibe. Change the front door to a more modern look, along with the light (get a larger one), house numbers, and mailbox when you can. Ditch the wreath and replace it and the bench with something simpler - maybe one or two colorful, large, modernish planters. maybe put those new house numbers & mailbox where the wreath is If you can afford it, consider painting all sides of the house a medium dark blue (yes, aluminum can be painted) - otherwise, do just match the taupe.
