Wonderful house, wonderful brick. Please don't paint it. It's unique and the texture is wonderful. Painting or limewashing it will take that away. Love @Nancy Ingram mockup. So economical with so much impact. I would consider painting the garage door. I'm not great with color, but the white is not helping the overall look. It needs to be some kind of color to either blend with the brick or compliment the roof.

I really appreciate the suggestions! I didn't think of doing anything with the garage door. I really appreciate the visual--those couple changes make a huge difference! The reason I was considering putting some type of wash or color on the house, is that I used some crack filler that did not blend in and sort of makes it look like frankenstein house. I don't want to change the facade color, I just wasn't sure what else to do to blend it in better. I'll look into cover up/blending solutions a little more.

Your house is gorgeous! I love the exterior material (brick or stone?). Please don't lime wash it. In my opinion the only thing your house needs is some landscaping! Design some flower beds to replace some of the grass up against the house and get some small shrubs and flowers planted to bring some interest to the landscape.

New landscaping is what you need. I would pass on the windowboxes - I love to garden but they’re too needy for me, and if you don’t keep them looking nice, they look horrible.

I ditto landscaping. It's a pretty house and the brtick is nice. The white is a bit stark. I might paintnthe garage door and clapboard siding a soft sage or moss green.

Agree no shutters, and no awnings (unless they are needed due to your location - I would choose a cooler house over looks!). Also no window boxes. This is a rather contemporary house style, so country/colonial/rustic touches aren't the best choices.

What I would do: When it is feasible I would change out the country style storm doors to something more contemporary. Try to find one or two (a lighter and a darker, perhaps, or a dark neutral and a bright) colors that complement the stone and roof (that shade of roof can be difficult) and paint everything that is currently white - darker color for the window frames and doors. You might look into adding a bit more trim around the windows- just a half inch or so - to give them a stronger balance.

You could Romabio the red brick chimney to a shade close to the stone.

Yes to landscaping, clean & simple lines. Look for a couple of evergreen shrubs that won't get huge. There are several varieties of boxwood that could suit, as well as junipers, falsecypress, and others - you want variation like illustrated above. Some planters/urns on the porch or on the side of the house can add winter interest when the other plants are bare.

I like the things you have chosen so far. Are they actually planted in the ground yet? If not, those three shrubs under the windows need to be moved away from the house about 3 feet.

Under the window are Fine Line Buckthorn. They are planted a couple feet away from the house, but the pics don't represent that very well. My original plan was to put grasses there, but I liked that these would stay tall year-round.

I wanted to do dwarf alberta spruce at the corner of the house, but the landscape place that helped review my plan suggested I may be happier in the future going with the Emerald Green Arborvitae.

Did the landscape place tell you that Emerald Green Arborvitae can get 15- 20 ft. tall and 6-10 ft. wide?

Unless they had some reason to think those trees won't, (which IMO is quite unpredictable) that is not a good location for those arborvitae.

Great job! Your house is really beautiful and I think the landscaping really brings it to life. I'm so glad you didn't limewash. Love it!

This doggie? He is now surveying projects for the backyard. It is the rottweiler that keeps attempting to eat the shrubs that we're more concerned about! 😆

It was my understanding that those arborvitae would have a spread of 3'-4' (per Monrovia.com) & height of up to 15'. The landscape place also assured me they would not get out of hand, because that was my concern. If they got 6-10' wide, that would definitely not be ideal!

Good job, i really like your house, especially the brick! Later, you could think about adding some landscape lighting, it would create a beautiful texture effect on your brick!
