Decorating help for boy’s room

What else can I do to this room to pull it all together?
We recently painted it (Rainwater by SW) and added the bedspread. My friend and I painted the skateboard decks and then we hung the surfboard but I feel like it doesn’t look finish. I think it needs more color.
• Rug? • Artwork? •Lights? •
He loves skateboarding and surfing. Retro Cali style but I’m having a hard time finalizing everything and feel like it doesn’t look finished.
We’re planning on replacing the fan with a larger black one.
We talked about either painting on replacing the large dresser because the woods don’t match. My husband made the headboard and side tables so I’d like to keep them.
Any ideas?

I think I’d remove the red chair.
Maybe do a bench at the foot of the bed.

For The bed I’m thinking maybe the blanket insert needs to be puffier.
Remove the throw blanket.
And add some pillows in fun colors.
Maybe a rug under the bed.

But it truly looks good as is now :)

It is finished. Great job. This is a boy's room the chair works no bench. No rug on the wall to wall carpet. You could paint the dresser to match the headboard

Love to share suggestions. Tell more? Do you own? As in, can you paint? The room to the left of your front door, is that laundry or kitchen? Budget? No need for amounts…low/medium/high. Dining table and benches are a good starting point. Corner piece…what is it for? Shelving , I could see with the dining table. And, the bone of everyone’s contention…the tv. Where? One thing for sure….from me to you…that front door is going to be painted a color.

Don't have time to answer all of your questions but here's what I can suggest: 1) Lower the mantle on fireplace a little, as well as the painting in the niche. (See #2 here) Consider changing the mantle to something less rustic and paint in color A (see next suggestion) 2) Open spaces should be cohesive - which you can easily do with paint. Choose 2 colors or 2 shades of the same color and vary placement in different areas. (see #5 here) Consider adding a simple chair rail to the dining area. For example, with minimal effort, you could use color A below the chair rail in dining area, as the dominant color in window treatments fabric (I"d use draw drapes) , the back wall of niche, throw pillows, lamps ac, and maybe an area rug in living room, and in accessories (see #3 here) in living room and kitchen. I'd consider adding some of that color to kitchen also -- back of open cabinets for example, recovering bar stools and dining room chair seats to match drapery fabric and possibly slip covering one of the armchairs in the living room in a pattern that incorporates the wall colors with other colors in the space. You want to use coordinates, not just the same solid everywhere so look for different textures or patterns to add. Hope that helps. I've inclluded links to additional info about topics I mentioned that I think you'll find helpful. 3) see #2 - I'd choose lamps with either a base or shade to match color A. (See #7 here) 4) Add plants. If you aren't there often enough to take care of them, use artificial greenery.

Find something of the shade of grey you wanted, and take it to the paint store and ask them to match it. Cool greys can be very unpleasant to live with, look like cement. I got a nice effect once by painting a room dove grey with white trim and a delicate pale birds-egg blue ceiling. Maybe that approach could take advantage of reflected light to give you the effect you want. Good luck!

An observation: the chandelier in the dark room doesn’t work with the sputnik one. Something like this light would work. Rectangular in shape, so great for over the table, and the same metal as the sputnik. Assuming the dark room is the dining room, then bring that color into the living room with a sofa in that color. Art can be whatever you love, and considering It is a playroom, something fun would be appropriate.

The only thing I don't like about the room is the color of the throw blanket. It doesn't fit with the other colors in the room. If an extra blanket is needed, pick one of the colors already in the room and go with that. Otherwise it's great!

@cawaps - The blanket is e same color as the yellow in the skateboards above the bed. It looks more buttercream here in the photo but it’s bright. :) Maybe I’ll grab some pillows

I was thinking one or two surfing posters would look great:

And I know you probably went to a lot of trouble to hang the surfboard, but I might lean/stand it against the wall (maybe to the left of the window and put art above the dresser (after painting the dresser).

Something about the skateboards bother me. I would stagger them on the wall above the bed.

I like the yellow throw, but not so much the duvet. I agree that it needs more stuffing. Put the gray pillows behind the shams, and add one throw pillow to pull in the other colors of the room. I agree that a couple of posters on the surfboard wall would be nice.
