The idea of using balsamic vinegar in a drink (with water or soda water)! I love it.

Also, ironically perhaps, the idea of becoming a clinical vet - i.e. a vet working in a vet clinic or hospital. It was something I absolutely did not want to do when I entered vet school, but I changed my mind in school and have been doing it ever since.

If looking to expand your eggplant horizons, try baba ghanoush. It's heavenly. Maybe best to try in a Middle Eastern restaurant or buy a small container at a store.

Personally, nothing strikes me that fits your question. I'm usually open to try new things (other than daredevil physical things, I'd never jump from a plane or off a cliff). I don't decide yea or nay for myself (whether a food, an activity, or the like) without trying.

Gardening!

Gardening for me as well. I lived in city apartments until I was 28, and didn't know a thing about plants. Then I got married, moved to suburbia, and had 1/3 of an acre of weeds. So I bought a lot of books, started digging and planting, and have enjoyed doing so for the last 35 years.

Flower gardening for me, as well. We always had a big garden when I was a kid, and I

hated working in it. We always had a big strawberry patch, and after weeding, keeping

the rows open, etc., I hated the very smell of 'strawberries. Wouldn't touch them for

years. Started trying them again, and I absolutely love them. LOL But, don't grow them...

Growing up, I never thought I would have children. My mother was not a good parent and she did not like kids. After leaving home my perspective changed over the years, and I'm so glad I decided to have kids.

My friend talked me into taking a watercolor class at the community college. I really resisted because I can't even draw a stick figure. Well, Im not good at it but I ended up really enjoying it and even took a second semester. Took another class at senior center but was not as happy with it. I really enjoy it and find it relaxing.

How QUICKLY the world has gone south/bonkers

Weight lifting.

Actually, I still don't like it, but at least I became good at it after I took weight lifting classes at university. I was not the best in my class of probably 20 students, but I was probably around third best, based on the total weight I could lift at the end of the semester. I think I got to 230 for the bench press (one rep for all of these), 410 for the dead lift, and 325 for the squat. I used to wrestle with a guy from my swim class who could bench press 275 (he was also much younger), but we were still fairly evenly matched for wrestling. I enjoyed wrestling more than weight lifting, but I had to get my strength up in order to compete in wrestling. This was went I went back to university for my design degree when I was 35 to 38 years old. My wrestling partner was 19, and he had competed in high school. Wrestling is very exhausting (in a short amount of time), but it is an especially good workout and is probably my favorite exercise, although in general I hate having to exercise. I've always liked swimming, and so that was never a surprise for me, but weight lifting and wrestling were.

I've always had my coffee with a tad bit of cream all my life, up until last week when I ran out of cream. I sipped the coffee black and learned that I love it WITHOUT cream, I was very surprised. I'm addicted now.

Jigsaw puzzles. I used to think they were incredibly boring. I like being busy and doing things that result in a product (gardening, woodwork, etc.). I really couldn't understand the draw. Now, I'm addicted.

I started running in the 1970s and later when I got older speeding walking every day around my town. When Covid hit and the gym closed, I started hiking on the Appalachian trail every day instead of occasionally going there. The deep woods have a calming effect and now I never walk the town anymore and love every minute of the hour and a half in the woods. It's my daily therapy session. Of course, next week when it's in the mid-'90s with feel like temps of over 100, for my health I may have to do my miles at the mall. Ugh.

Mushrooms. Can't believe it took me over 70 years to love them! I'm making up for lost time nowadays... YUM!

Definitely the horse thing. I just casually mentioned to DH one year I'd never ridden even though I had relatives who did. I was the last born and the horses moved by the time my parents would think I was old enough. He bought me a groupon for 4 trail rides that Xmas. I had really bad Meniere's episodes for a year after and never really was able to continue. In the meantime I searched for a trainer who wouldn't mind teaching a 67 year old, deaf woman with a vestibular disease to ride and would take me seriously. That was 3 years ago. i was blessed to have found a coach who was into endurance riding. Got to learn on some lovely Arabians. Got a strong foundation in groundwork also and anything else I showed an interest in.

Covid came along and she pretty much lost her business, had to sell the horses etc. But I was riding for extra saddle time at another place and they worked it out so I could stay in the saddle during the shutdown. I only missed 2 weeks of riding during the early part of the shutdown. This is my new family of four footed and two footed. It took a bit of tough cowboy love to convert me but I am having an absolute blast riding western. We even did Virtual Tevis (a hundred mile challenge) last year on a school horse. I now have a spicy new mare to ride. She's only 10 and super sensitive. Teaching me so much. Right now it's mostly hitting the trails during the summer which I love, but I hope to get into a bit of reining during the fall. Got some mules to be ridden too. I've been having so much fun getting to know them.

If anyone had told me 10 years ago I would be a 70 year old cowgirl, I would have laughed so hard I would have wet myself. I've always been a wheels person, skating, motorcycles and fast cars etc. Horse? Who knew? I'll be riding 'til the day I can't sit in the saddle. My mentor told me I'm rocking 70. I told him to just hang in there and stay alive and healthy to watch me really rock 80.

Watching beach volleyball.

The first time I watched the Tour de France. With the great commentators explaining what was going on, which would not have been evident to me at first glance, I got hooked on the beauty and endurance, and have spent my Julys with the Tour on TV for the past 17 years. I watch any other race that is available either by streaming or broadcast - far fewer available to see now, since Lance Armstrong's fall from grace, without paying a pretty penny or catching a pirate stream from Europe.

What's something that surprised you?

Watching curling...we only see it during the olympics and I always thought it was the most ridiculous sport...I mean who wants to spend their recreational time sweeping??? But we started watching and were hooked!

Annie, back when the writers strike was on, we started watching curling too. Like you, we both liked it immensely.

Yaya....I put a bit of cream along with milk in my coffee. Yesterday I opened a brand new carton of cream and it curdled. I tried drinking my coffee with just milk but I need the cream. Good for you for ditching the cream altogether.

Baking. Grew up with a mom that didn't cook, much less bake, and stupidly had poor opinions of those that did. I got into cooking but still swore I'd never bake. Now I keep 4 kinds of flour, am known for my pastries and dinners :)

Creamed spinach. I bought a box of Green Giant creamed spinach by mistake and DH and I loved it! It's something we both hated as kids. We were both served a lot of cooked-to-death vegetables as children. I still can't stand the sight of stewed tomatoes. My grandmother forced them on me in my highchair. I didn't like them going down...or coming back up.

Online jigsaw puzzles! Especially the 'mystery' ones, where you don't have a picture of the completed puzzle to go by. I'm addicted!

Before the pandemic, I dry cleaned quite a few items. I like things to stay new looking and I was afraid that clothing that fit perfectly would shrink and become more worn looking.

Rusty, I didn’t think I would like online jigsaw puzzles, either, but I’ve found them quite enjoyable! I do them while DH and I watch movies in the evening, and much too often during the day.

Spinning. I joined a gym about 8 years ago and got hooked. Now I ride at home but I still love it. Just wished we had two spin bikes so DD and I could ride together.

Riding scooters. I started riding in 2009 with a 2009 50cc Honda Ruckus (100 mpg, 40 mph), Now I have 2 x Honda Ruckus, 2 x Piaggio MP3, 1 Vespa and 1 Honda Big Ruckus. I learned how to ride a small motorcycle Honda Grom, but a maunal bike is too much work for me. :-)

Gardening. I started rose gardening about 10 years ago with 250 lanscaping roses. I really loved coming home to thousands of blooms. I have been collecting more each year. Now I have over 1,000 roses at 3 locations. It’s a lot of work for sure,, and I am always behind. . I will transfer most of roses from our old house to the new place this fall and next spring, working on garden design at this moment.
