Progress on DIY Master Bath..but dang 10mm glass is Heavy!
Comments (2)Thanks Chibimimi! Gutting the BR is progress...right? Pic is of wiring and blocking for towel warmer, fan and lights. Will have a fan for the first time in this BR. It has a light which we will wire separately to individual controls by our night stands to use as a night light. DH just asked if I want a 3-way, ie switch in the BR too, but I think not, as it'll be a pain to have to remember to leave it on, so it can be controlled by bedroom switches. We'll see, borrowed the idea of a night light bedroom switch from GW, and when I discovered that you could buy a decorative fan/light combo thought that saves me having to find space for another fixture! Tile shown is tile we were GOING to go with until I ordered multiple samples, thank heavens! Once I got four pieces I realized that they were all exactly the same...not the look you are going for with a stone-like tile! I didn't order samples of the Everstone, as I am assuming from pics like below that it comes in an assortment of patterns. Our tile is a limestone lookalike porcelain tile called Everstone (Ever-dore), this pic shows it with barely any grout lines, which I had never noticed before...was planning 3/16...now thinking that may be too big... Oh well, will make a sample board with grout, so will see then......See MoreMaster bath ‘spa’ shower/tub or just shower?
Comments (14)I think it really depends on if you are a bath person or not. Personally, when looking at houses a bath was not a “downside” unless it robbed space from a full sized shower, leaving either no shower or something the size of an old broom closet. I’d take a shower over a bath any day. All that said, I don’t take baths, and my husband who does is happy using the one in the bathroom down the hall. If you are someone who takes baths, then I would look at doing a tub/shower combo (an alcove tub like mentioned above)...you can do tile walls and even a glass enclosure to make it look a little prettier. If you have the space, or are tall, maybe see if you can put in a 6’ tub/shower? And because of your arthritis I recommend avoiding drop in/deep soaker tubs and such anyway. They can feel luxurious for sure but they are more difficult to get in and out of so that may factor in during a flare or down the road. For closet space, I ditto the recommendation to look at PAX from Ikea. I like walk in closets, but if you are going to sacrifice walk in closets I would go for PAX over a built in reach in closet. They allow a lot more flexibility with how you arrange things in your rooms, are very functional/customizable, and they look nice!...See MoreMaster Bath Shower Faucets - wall and ceiling shower head only?
Comments (13)We redid our MB with an overhead, a hand held, also a grab bar. I think the handheld is great. We use it for cleaning screen windows, the dog, sometimes my feet, etc. Although I think the ceiling overhead shower head looks glamorous , it makes washing your hair awkward. You have to step out of the water pathway to get the shampoo in your hair, vs. a wall mount you step back a few inches and you can get shampoo in while still being showered with the water....See More10 foot ceilings - Where did you lower?
Comments (27)it all depends on site lines and visual impact when viewing a ceiling transition and lot depends on your architectural style; it should all blend in without seeming obvious. It is also true that small spaces may look silly with tall ceilings while large spaces definitely benefit from tall ceilings. We used a combination of 9, 10’ and 12’ ceilings. Our continuous entry/foyer/living/kitchen has a 12’ flat ceiling and occupy roughly 33% of living area on the first floor. 6’ wide corridors have 9’ ceilings, lead to bedrooms with 9’ and 10’ ceilings. Coming to doors and door trim, style, width, design and height all play a strong part in practicality and visual impact. As others mentioned, lighting and natural light also have a tremendous visual impact....See Morekelleg69
