@ maiat - after looking at many, many different brands, I think it is the best value. Not the least expensive, but I think you get the most for your $. Finding dealers is not easy. It seems they spend more time building cabinets than making their website helpful. Even when I requested KD's, via their website, they did not send me the closest. I found KD's by googling "shiloh+cabinets+chicago"

I know nothing of Craft Maid but I know a little of Rutt. Rutt is not a company that I would have asked to make modern cabinets for me. My cabinets are from Henrybuilt. I wanted modern European esthetics in my cabinets. That's all Hentrybuilt does and they do that extremely well. The other companies that I looked were predominantly European, similar list as you. build everything to the exact dimension. My fireplace surround has three doors that are exactly the same sizes that fill the space exactly! Each company has an esthetic that they know how to execute very well. When you ask the company to do something that they are not comfortable doing, then the outcome is somewhat uncertain because there is no previous example. At this price point, they all make good cabinets. What sets one apart from another company is not the construction but the design, customer service and attention to detail. I am sure they are all made with 3/4 inch plywood boxes. HB is.. I am sure they all use top of the line Blum hinges and self closing drawer hardware etc etc. HB uses Blum Tandemboxes for their kitchens, not hardwood drawers. They want the kitchens to be more Euro cabinets than American cabinets. I would ask this company to show you all possible examples of modern kitchens that they have installed. If you like how they achieve the look, which is often the balance of proportions, reveals where different materials meet, combination of materials used, and in particular with slab veneer cabinets, how they use the grains to create a balance of horizontal and vertical lines in the space. If what they show does not quite give you that feeling that you will get the wow kitchen that you wanted, then I would keep looking at other companies. American Black walnut, teak, rift cut oak, mahogony, wenge, anigre are some of the wood species that can look great as veneer slab doors. They can be quite expensive, however. Have you looked at those wood? A while back, there was beautiful custom kitchen done in mahogony. Not slab, but none the less beautiful. When I went to the Craft Maid web site, I did not see any modern kitchens that even came close to the kind of esthetic that European companies and Henrybuilt does. That does not mean that they can't do it. If they have NOT done it yet, you are taking a risk that it may not come out quite what you envisioned...

Thanks, jdesign, for trying to talk me through how this gliding system works. Thankfully, one of the two companies who offer Omega just put up a display of the doors in their store this week! So, I get to go in and see them for myself! Honu, I'm glad you found the thread again. It would be great to see your cabinets, when it is a good time for you. I finally got my initial quotes back from Durasupreme and Omega. I'm still in the process of trying to ensure they followed my list so I can compare apples to apples. I'm relieved with both quotes, which I guess is the consolation prize of a small kitchen. I didn't hold back much on the bells and whistles, so these numbers supposedly include thin end cabinets on both the fridge and the peninsula sides of the U for small pantry space, framing in the fridge, garbage pullout, microwave drawer, super susan, some drawer stacks, etc. The estimates also include costs for basic crown, light rail and toe kick. I asked to have them priced out in white shaker. Both cabinet lines are the frameless lines. They offer 3/4" plywood boxes, dovetail drawers, soft-close, full extension. Durasupreme Alectra came in at $17,528, discounted $800+ for a sale and another $800 if I pay cash - for a total then of $15,819. Shipping included. There was a $1700 up-charge for the bamboo on the lowers and fridge cabinet/pantry included. Omega's Full Access quote came in at $13,478, including shipping. It says on the quote that this is a 50% discount... It would add a little over 2K to change the uppers to the gliding door system. Bamboo and wenge would be a 50% uncharge (ouch). I'm getting a second quote from this line from another company today. The good news is that these numbers make both lines affordable for me. And, really, fairly comparable. The bad news is that I still can't find finishes in ANY line at ANY price point that I really like. I do love the Omega Metro door. That's about it, so far. It's really sad. I know stained cabinets would hold up better and slab is more cleanable and I like the IDEA of stained/wood/bamboo/wenge lowers and white uppers. But, I don't really want slab doors on the tops. I don't want dark and I don't want super grainy/busy and I don't think my house can handle heavy. The house would like light woods, but I am just not a fan of maples, firs, oaks, cherries, pines, etc. I went into this adamantly against yellow, gold, orange or red tones. Now, I am considering bamboo, but DuraSupreme's reads pretty orange/yellow and Omega's are muted but a 50% uncharge! One thing that I haven't considered, but maybe I should, is rift oak. Maybe I could live with that? Bottom line, I think I'm really a painted cabinet girl, trying to shove herself into a wood cabinet box SOMEHOW. And, all of that is probably for another thread...

@Lisa I do have a question for you! The thing that concerns me about Cambria is the heat comments. I would never put a hot pan on any countertop. BUT what about things like an All Clad Slow Cooker? Moccamaster or Nespresso Coffee maker? Instant Pot? What things like this needs something under them to use? Air Fryer.. I would think Vitamix would be fine? I think it would look awful to always have something under the coffee make or Vitamix. The other things are not kept on the counter. I have never had to use something under them with the granite countertops. I don't Have to go with quartz. If I do go with quartz it will definitely be Cambria. I thought about going with marble but I am a messy cook! I still want to see your blue when I go back to the beach. (My husband seems to be set on Cambria white! But that might be more due to him being tired of ldiscussions about the countertop.)
