I am a fabricator. catheliz - you are right in expecting the 2 corners to be the same. this is a mistake by the fabricator and they seem to be acknowledging it. it's an easy mistake to make. we've done it ourselves. A good fabricator can turn the radiused corner into a 90 degree inside corner. if the edge has a complex shape like Ogee or FV30 it would take an exceptionally good fabricator to make the corner look right. if it a shape like a flat or simple radius then it's very do-able. there will be dust and water but if the fabricator takes adequate care the mess should be contained to a very small area. my 2 cents.

The proper way to replace a sink in a slab counter is to remove the slab and mount the undermount sink to the rough top, then to reinstall the slab. The slab may not survive the removal intact, and whether it breaks or not will depend on 1) weakness of veining, 2) strength of slab adhesive, and 3) skill and strength of the workers. The shortcut way is to use either a sink designed to mount either top or undermount, such as the Kohler Vault; this gives a very clean look as a top-mount, and a skilled installer could even install it flush by grinding a groove in the slab under the lip of the sink so the stainless sits flush with the counter top. The easiest but least esthically pleasing way is to use a top-mount sink. Yikes. :) Retro/Mid-Century Modern has been "in" for a while, but won't always be hip. I'd stick with Italian or colonial, something that's stood the test of time without going horribly out of style. Though if you love Mid-Century Modern and have to have it, go for it!

If you have trouble visualizing what you'd like but "know it when you see it", then at this stage you should probably just look at as many stainless / dark cherry kitchens as you can and see which countertops and flooring "grab" you. In my case I knew I wanted simple, natural cherry cabinets and stainless appliances and probably a wood floor, but that was it. Looking at lots of pictures helped me narrow things down, so now I can at least have intelligent conversations with kitchen designers. I'd suggest going over to houzz.com and entering "stainless steel dark cherry kitchen" into their search box and looking through some of the hundreds of results you get. It's a great source of ideas. After you see some you like, you can probably come up with more words to add to the search box to narrow things down. You can also go to google and enter "site:gardenweb.com dark cherry stainless" and you'll find lots of threads on this site too. I don't know of a way to limit it to threads with photos, unfortunately. Laura

@kel_kat5 - It is a mistake to think that Dayana’s situation is representative of granite counters. Most importantly, the Bahamas White granite she pictured looks like it’s in the family of the Imperial White or Kashmir granites, which is notorious for behaving more like marble and staining easily because it is more absorptive than other granites, I.e. porous. If one is looking for a granite with a white background, check out the granites in the family of Alaska White, White Springs, Bianco Delicatus, and Lennon, which are pretty bullet-proof. I’ve had different granites in different homes, and none even needed sealing, and were carefree, and we didn’t baby them. There are a thousand granites out there, and they should not all be lumped under the same umbrella. Quartz is a great choice if you want a more uniform appearance to your counters. There are stories on this forum of Quartz staining, scorching and chipping, and having resin pools. I actually think Quartz is a wonderful choice for counters. But get it for its appearance and beauty, not because you think it is more durable than granite.
