Has anyone done one coat of Bona Naturalseal and 1 coat of Nordicseal?
Comments (27)It is normal. The small exposure of the end of the planks when it was stained DARK (how many years ago?) is to blame. There isn't much to be done. Every time you do a full sand (3 grit levels) you remove 20 years of life off of your wood. If you try to get rid of this tick of colour (which 99.99999% of people will NOT notice...even if you point it out to them) you can and WILL reduce the life of your wood. This is one of those 'meh' moments. The decision to go DARK some 15-20 years ago set up this situation. Let it be. There are worse things out there then a hint of left-over stain colour in a wood floor....like a roof that needs repair...or hurricanes...tornados...ground water contamination, etc. In 6 weeks you won't even remember what it was that made you nervous....See MoreBona Amber seal or Classicseal on red oak floors?
Comments (17)here are pics of my red oak floors with Bona classic seal and traffic (or whatever the matte finish is called?). Three things to note: 1. these photos were taken with my selfie lense so not entirely accurate. the grain in the flooring is somehow much more pronounced. walnut cabinets looks darker in this photo too... I also inserted a photo from downstairs (w/ refinished floors) up to 1980s orangy existing floors. you can see the contrast. 2. I was nervous because it started out pinky. it's either mellowed and yellowed/oranged out a bit or I just got used to it. still a pink twinge but less so. 3. the floor was slippery for the first 3 months which has also mellowed. I'll try to get better photos for you. in the end, happy we went with classic. it kept them light and natural. it's like clear nail polish....See MoreHi! Has anyone every stained there red oak with a low VOC water stain?
Comments (12)You have choices. 1) You can do the floor natural color and use all water based products to eliminate residual odors. 2) You can use a reliable oil based stain that is formulated to use with water based finishes and perhaps have some residual odor. 3) You can use water based stain and when the application is predictably unacceptable, you can choose selections 1 or 2 above. Other than water based aniline dye applied at full strength, I've not seen an acceptable water based wood floor stain. Which one were you looking at to recommend to your contractor?...See MoreHas anyone used 50/50 minwax dark walnut + special walnut on red oak?
Comments (35)You want to avoid applying a second coat of stain. It will cause adhesion issues. What you can do is add some of the stain to a oil base poly, then apply it. Another option is to use poly shade in a similar color. You can apply 2-3 coats of the poly shade to achieve your desired color. Poly shade is oil base. Contractor should have water popped the floor prior to applying the stain. The color would come out darker....See MoreTimothy Winzell
