I’m not a fan of plantation shutters (so might not be the best one for input here). Once they’re installed, there’s no real way to make them disappear and enjoy the openness and simplicity of your windows. And the slats seem very heavy to me. In any case, if you love them why are you hesitant about installing them in your dining room??

If it were my home, I would do a motorized translucent cellular shade (or a manual one) because when open, it would simply disappear….you wouldn’t even know it’s there. And when closed for some privacy, you would still get light coming through the window during the day.

We have plantation shutters in one room and we love the versatility. It is never an “ all or nothing “ proposition. An open window is beautiful - until it becomes a black space at night, imo. If one lives in complete privacy, then keeping the window unadorned is a different matter. However, with your window facing the street, I would add shutters were it my home.

I love them and have the same style windows in formal dining and living rooms. I installed plantation shutters up to where the arch is, left that open for light, and framed out the entire window including the arch with a wide frame. It finished the room, gives privacy and protects from the heat when needed, and there is plenty of light with the top open, and the slats partially open.

For the dining room, it may be nice to have that bright open space as the lighting could make it more inviting for guests! Since you were planning on not using the shutters on the arch as well, it could have the potential of taking away from such a gorgeous focal point
