plantation shutters- extra frame inside window or not?
Comments (5)You only need to install shutters with a frame if you do not have enough window depth clearance to install the shutter inside the window frame directly to the window frame jamb or if you don't have a solid wood window frame b/c it's not a good idea to afix the hinges directly on top of a drywall opening. The link below will take you to a high quality shutter company where you find all sorts of information about how to install shutters properly using 1 of 4 different mounting methods. You may also want to check out www.allaboutshutters.com. This site has oodles and oodles of information about all things window shutters. Comments (18)Sorry for letting this thread drop, we had to make a bit of an emergency trip out of state. I don't want any of you who responded to think that I just didn't read through your responses. :) I'm not sure why the lined bamboo shades would be so heavy (I've not felt them myself, but the rep said they'd be "ugodly heavy." We have babmoo shades outside and they're surprisingly light. Maybe a different quality of materials is used? I'm really not sure. The existing panels & sheers, once we have a privacy treatment, would stay open - pushed to either side (not swagged). The panels & sheers are on a double rod and I like to have the sheers just barely poking out from behind. No idea why, it's just a look I really like. I'm not deeply in love with either, but it took me a LONG time to find panels in that color that were long enough so I'm not in a hurry to get rid of them. I don't have a great pic showing the windows/current treatments, and never did get one taken before we had to take off. Here are some that I've taken to show other things, in which you can see partially what I have: These are the actual windows: You can see part of the panels/sheers here. The sheers can go if need be. There's just something I like about them paired. This is a very rare picture of them closed. We normally leave them pulled open. The panels aren't quite that dark, nor shiny, in person (and we now have a different rug in there)....See MoreI'll Show Your Mine, If You'll Show Me Yours, Friday July 1st

Comments (34)I agree with those above who have said that there is a place for everything on our shelves. My shelves stay cleaner and more organized than my old cabinets ever did in our old house. And, my husband and four children put things exactly where they go overtime without any nagging from me! This photo was taken this morning before I've emptied the dishwasher or cleaned up after my kids and husband left for the day. We use all of the items on the bottom shelf everyday. The items on the upper two shelves do get used but less frequently. This is shelf is where we keep our glasses and cups, although there are more cups (those that aren't very pretty) in the drawer below this cabinet. These are all used on a daily basis as are the creamers on the top shelf. I know you didn't ask for plate racks, but I find that this is really useful as well. We've been in this house for almost a year and I'm so glad I went with open shelving and the plate rack. I'm not sure I would ever go back to having upper cabinets or lower for that matter, I also love my drawers!...See Morelettersatoz
