Kitchens Design Dilemma

Need help choosing which granite for kitchen table?

I'm getting a custom kitchen table made of granite for a 66" x 35" table. I'm refreshing some areas of my kitchen since I just did a complete makeover 10 years ago but my kitchen range just died. So I started off getting a new Miele Induction Range and then decided to get a new kitchen table and chairs. I'm also going to take down the wallpaper and paint an eggshell white and get a new lighting fixture over the table. I also have to take into consideration my existing quartzite countertops which I don't want to take away from. So which granite would go better in my kitchen, the Silestone Lusso or the Raphael Venato Gold? I'm also going to need help selecting a table base.

Silestone is not granite. It’s what is called ”quartz”, which is ground up quartz particles mixed with plastic resins. Many of them, like the two you’ve shown, try to imitate marble, but never look like the real thing. What you have on your counters are real stone, those two examples are not.

Neither of those two slabs compliment your quartzite counter.

I'm sorry, you are correct. I meant to write quartz, not granite. But I wanted something more durable than marble or granite, that would be good for the heavy use of a kitchen table and not worry about things like water ring marks and such.

I think that a dining table should have comfortable chairs. Benches are the worst! No back support, you are sharing with other people so you can't pull the chair to your comfortable distance from the table. PLEASE consider a set with comfortable chairs, or purchase them separately. Many furniture stores sell them chairs separate from the table, find a table you like and then find chairs that go with it. Make sure there is room for the chairs under the table if the table has a drop underneath. Dining should be a comfortable experience, not a torture chamber, even if it is just for the kids! I am with Kswl on every point, including the black for the color.

I'd head to granite yards with a sample of the white and espresso cabinets and look for granites you like with both and won't clash with the blue or the floors, whatever color they are. Picking colors is just something better done in person. Having pics doesn't always help since untrue colors can lead to wrong choices. I think granite "goes" will depend more on your shade of white on the cabinet than the more distant blue.

Thanks for the reply Sina Sadeddin Design. I'm not sure of this picture will help? White Quartz countertops will be installed and the present pendant bar will be replaced so that the new pendants are centered over the island. FYI the counter top in the corner bottom is temporary so I have some workable counter space right now ;) I could also do a recessed light as well I guess and no pendant but I like pendants.

@salonva preliminary picture of the new countertops and sink!!! I'm really enjoying the new countertops. The fabricator is coming to do a second layer of sealant on the countertops too. We really love how this color looks. We worked on replacing 1/2 of the hinges yesterday with invisible ones- I'm hoping the rest will be done by the end of the week and that we may be able to paint the cabinets this coming weekend (at least the uppers!!) With that in mind, after seeing the countertops installed and envisioning the pure white cabinets, I'm thinking a white backsplash will look too sterile. I think once we have the cabinets painted I will do a separate post asking for new backsplash tile recommendations! but I figured I would share how the new countertops came out, The river white really looks nice!

Well, if you must have plastic for a dining table, pick a color from your counter, a solid color, and go with that. Just be careful about putting dishes straight from the microwave on it. Estone (aka, quartz), can melt and burn from heat. It can also suffer from thermal shock, and crack. Use trivets.

You have a LOT of pattern going on in the kitchen already. How about a traditional wood kitchen table and wood chairs with no fabric?

I have 15 year old quartz and have always put things from the microwave on it, the stove, no.

Neither of your selections work with the existing space and colors. Look at the counter and select pull a color out for the quartz that is solid.
