Furniture Design Dilemma living room

Layout for living room with doors and wall-to-wall fireplace

How would everyone set up furniture in this living room? We would like to have a TV in it but it is awkward with the wall-long fireplace and so many doors. Is there an attractive way to have a TV (even if small) and a couch/loveseat + conversation area without obstructing pathways?

The previous tenants had a TV over the fire place and furniture pushed against the wall....prefer not to do that. Thank you in advance for your ideas!

Please post a pic of the FP I think it might be best to handle this as 2 seating spaces with 2 chairs in front of the FP and then the TV on the left wall with a sofa and maybe 2 chairs with thesofa facing the TV and anarrow walkway behind it to access the master.That would aslo allow for a biyt of an entry with mabe a low bookcase or pony wall for some separation

You can't realistically put the TV on the wall on the right. You'd have to move your furniture too far forward and back some of it up to the fireplace. Your only practical choices are over the TV (which I normally hate but might be OK here) or in the nook). How wide is that room along the fireplace wall, not counting any part of the bench nook? I doubt you have room for a full sofa facing the FP with end tables and all. You need a lot of room to enter or the space will feel extremely closed off. Maybe 2 parallel chairs, a chair and a half, or a loveseat. How tall is that bench? Is it even the right height for a seat? Also, do you have a pic showing the front windows? Those will be covered by a couch.

My living room layout is very similar! I had my couch horizontal in front of your window creating a entryway, maybe put a console table behind the couch.

The location of your hallway table causes the traffic path to be along the railing, instead of along the wall. This may not be the best location for the traffic path, depending on where your sofas go, and how long they are. As you plan things out, remember that you can remove that table, which moves the traffic path along the wall. The table could be along the railing side, with just a piece of wall art on the wall facing the front door. Or the table could be your sofa table, if it is long enough.

It is a 'real' fireplace..it just has a gas starter which are SOOOO nice for eliminating the messy of getting a wood fire started!! The bottom line is in a room with a fireplace and a TV the seating needs to face both for the room to be used to its fullest. Fireplace/TV side by side is the most aesthetically pleasing positioning. BUT the OP doesn't have that option anymore. When that TV dies I would consider putting a new smaller one to one side or the other. For now a shelf makes the most sense to me. A random light fixture for no purpose seems like a missed opportunity for storage. The added COLOR by Celery, to that space is my personal favorite suggestion. I do not understand half the seating in the room with it's back to the TV/fireplace. This room gives the impression most of the TV watching happens in the kitchen/dining area, Why else the need for such a huge TV with little seating in the actual room?

How far out does the step below the fireplace extend? I'm wondering if you have space on the right side to fit a loveseat along the wall between the fireplace and the hallway.

I think it's about 18" inches or so, so maybe that might work? I feel like when we have put furniture against the wall in other spaces it has looked strange but maybe it would be okay with a small loveseat? Not sure, thank you for the input :-)

It looks in the picture like the step below the fireplace extends all the way forward to the doorway on the left. Is that the case?

Yes, that's my memory--the cement below the fireplace extends to the bedroom door on the left. (I should have indicated that in the blueprint picture I made).

I've been thinking about this a lot, lol. What about a kind of pass-through layout like this? Here I have the TV on an extending wall mount on the right, and the chairs could perhaps be swivel chairs.

Thank you! Great idea. My wife doesn't seem to like the idea of the TV on an extending wall mount but it at least gives us something to think about...I really like the way the furniture is setup. Maybe the answer is no TV but keep it like that. Thank you for your input!

No problem! Potentially you could fit a low tv stand/credenza in that spot so you can reposition the TV on that instead. (i'm not entirely sure how much space you have there--it looks like a lot in the photo!)

Or, You could of course do the same layout and have the TV somewhere on the fireplace wall. That depends I guess on why you don't like it there. Maybe if you have a smaller TV it wouldnt stand out as much? Adding some artwork in varying sizes could help disguise it too. You certainly have the ledge for it!
