Thanks for the recommendation, Wednesday. I think we should add a 'Viewing' thread to the already wonderful 'Reading' thread on the KT. DH and I watch something almost every afternoon, our 'Teatime Matinee'. I'll BOLD my recommendation here, as we do with book titles.

We're currently watching Unforgotten with our Masterpiece Theater subscription on Amazon Prime -- in weekly installments, as it's new. We usually watch a series that's already complete or watch a longer movie over two days.

My favorite storybook. I found a woodcarver in Tuscany who did wonderful Pinocchios so we chatted and he urged me to try it out. Together we made a wonderful jointed Pinocchio who sits in a little boat that the carver added. I'll be sure to watch the movie, thank you.

If you love the movie you'd better get a copy or record it if you can before it becomes a target of the cancel culture. Almost every thing is under attack including original Disney animated movies, Dr. Seuss and even "I love Lucy" has been removed from CBS's catalog as racist.

I enjoy old movies from the 30's to mid 50's but they are slowly disappearing along with so much other content we may never see again because of this cancel culture takeover. So we have very Animated Disney movie and will guard them with our life from any confiscation effort in the future. Laugh if you want but Winnie the Pooh was banned in china about 5 years ago and under attack here by the cancel culture, see the similarity?

There is no cancel culture. Just an increased awareness of how hurtful some things we've (dominant culture) accepted and promoted in the past toward "other" groups. We can have wonderful entertainment for us and for our kids without causing pain to others. "An unexamined life is not worth living."

You don't have the Turner Classic Movies channel? I too am a big fan of older films, and they're there in abundance.

As for Dr. Seuss, most of what Geisel wrote is still being published, and the few titles that the estate decided to stop publishing are readily available in the used book market online.

I'm not familiar with what Disney has 'canceled', but are you referring to this?

I have a large collection of DVDs of fantasy movies, and I particularly like the Russian ones - of movies generally made in the 1970s. My favorite is Ruslan & Ludmila, which is the most famous Russian epic.

I'm sure I would love the Pinocchio movies as well.

As for controversial Disney Movies, I think Song of the South tops the list. I personally think that this movie should be released on DVD, as I remember liking it very much when I saw it as a child, and I cannot un-remember it.

I have a small colletion of childrens reading books from early to mid century. The way the world is presented in those old teaching books was such a different world! It quite decidedly would not pass the smell test today. Some of it really was dreadful.

I have one old book of stories about the MIssissippi River. You go figure that one. Imagine!

No, no, you're wrong. Mickey Mouse is a communist stooge, he was seen at the US Capitol on Jan 6 throwing eggs at the freedom fighters exercising their rights under the Constitution. ;-)
