stainless steel sink help me choose
Comments (13)hello lamermaid, I'm sorry I cannot help you because I do not know what a D basin is. The point I was trying to make is that if the drain is located in the center of the basin (center being front to back) the piping under the sink will take up space that you could otherwise use more conveniently if it were located toward the rear of the basin. I note that a previous poster mentioned that a drain located in the CORNER of basin is another option that might be desirable in some applications. This is just another one of those things that you have to think through to make sure the choice you make in the end is the right one for you. Any kitchen contractor worth their salt should be able to walk you through the options and help you decide. The shape and dimensions of your under-sink space may be an important consideration in figuring out what to do....See MoreWood range hood vs stainless steel hood restrictions - need help
Comments (8)Hi, I may be able to answer the wood hood question since we went through the same thing recently. It sounds like he's suggesting a wider hood than range width, which is recommended/common although from what I've learned on this site the same width as the range can also work depending on the blower and how the range is used. If you do decide to stick to a 30" wide hood, have you checked the specific dimensions of the hood insert you are wanting to use? They should be slightly smaller than the actual hood width to allow for them to go up inside of the wood hood. While we are going with a 6inch wider hood than our rangetop, we're going to be using a bluestar rangetop and plan on lots of wok cooking. We did have to go back to our cabinetmaker requesting the wider hood and did have to give up some upper cabinet space to achieve what we wanted. Depending on how your parents use their stove, a 30inch hood could work. I'm not sure about the space needed for a stainless hood- I've seen them both butted right up against cabinets and with space in between. Hopefully someone with more expertise will pipe in on that-...See MoreIsland Range Hoods - Slim, non-stainless, and/or custom?
Comments (2)How about stainless with glass? My kitchen is finished now but I don't have an updated picture. I will work on it. My range hood is a cavaliere and I love it because it was a lot shorter than most range hoods and I have 8 ft ceilings. It is quiet and functions well. Here is the link for it... http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=cavaliere+range+hood&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=4436661199202860628&sa=X&ei=MJLiTravF4ni2QWEq7HHBA&ved=0CIsBEPMCMAI...See MorePossible to add straps & rivets to store bought stainless steel hood?
Comments (22)I really like that zinc hood. Very well done. And very interesting to see how the home owner carefully picked a design that looks good but is easier to manufacture than some of the commercially made hoods. Knowing what can and cannot be done easily is absolutely one of the skills that a good craftsman needs to have. And even after simplifying the design, I bet he used a couple of specialized big machines. I can just about picture how you could build this hood with hand tools. But it would take a lot of experience to make it look this nice. Even with access to modern tools, there is plenty of potential to mess it up....See MoreRedRyder
