Twistie-- I've had the Bosch range ASvet recommends for several years now, all gas version. I do like it quite a bit. I never use the warming drawer beneath the oven. I have a dog and it is hard for me to get my head around keeping food warm that close to the floor! Still I probably should use it when we have dinner parties. The broiler is, I think, very slow to ignite, it might take three to four minutes for it to come on and five to six until it is fully heated. I only use it for toast though since we have a grill for steaks or meats. When I have tried meats it cooks unevenly, meaning the steaks, whatever, to the outer edges of the pan cook at a slower rate than the portions directly below the strip of broiler flame. This is why I avoid using it. I find the oven heat to be quite even. Cakes baked in a good cake pan bake perfectly flat, cookies also come out evenly done. It is fun to mess about with the meat probe and auto shutoff feature, and can be quite a nice feature since you always know the internal temp of the meat. The convection element was the bit I was quite excited about when I bought the range but it is a bit of a flop (I have the gas oven). I think it is because the fan is too strong. When I use the convection feature cookies and cakes will be unevenly browned, in a pattern that makes me think heat was blasted at them. There might be lighter areas on the cookies closest to the rim of the sheet pan, for example. I get nice use out of the proofing feature since I do make the occasional bread. It is also nice to warm butter up quickly for baking. I just set it to the lowest temp, 85F, and shut the oven off. I've also used the dehydrate feature to dry peppers, tomatoes etc. Also the oven is huge but the telescoping rack is worthless since it isn't on ball bearings. With food on it it is too heavy to slide out easily, so don't be wowed by this feature. It is just a bulky rack that you won't want to use. The burners are quite nice. I get a lot of use out of the power/sim burner. I gets plenty hot for my style of cooking and does a nice job on a steak on high, or browning meats and them letting them simmer on low. The low is very low indeed, and the high is pretty darn high. Newer versions of the range may have two of these. The lowest btu burner is awesome. I once wanted to hardboil an egg, knew I'd be away from the stove for a bit and set it to low so it didn't over cook. Well I went outside, saw a weed, pulled it and... THREE HOURS later after a dog walk etc I remembered my egg! I decided to have it for lunch and... It was soft boiled. Now that is a low flame! Grant it I have good cookware, but this means I can also melt chocolate without having to do the double boiler routine. The flame also gets to the perfect level to quickly heat a small pot of soup. My flames are uneven. This is my biggest complaint. I think the installers did not level the range when they put it in because the gas needed hooking up. The gas man said he couldn't do it... So make sure they level the stove. The dealer can't seem to find an explaination for the uneven flames. At first I thought it was a manufacturing defect with a burner part. A repairman for the broiler was mystified, but perhaps just a bit willfully stupid when I asked him about this and if he could fix it. (The stove not being level hadn't occurred to me then. Seems to me he should have come up with it. The stove is heavy though and I wonder if he just didn't want to move it alone) Maybe ASVet can offer advice here? Hi, Hi, I'm in the process of remodeling our kitchen. I narrowed down the 30" gas range stove selection between a Bertazzoni Master series and a Bosch 800 series. At this point I am looking at single fuel. My in-laws have Bertazzoni. I have cooked with it a little and it is a solid range. Easy to clean, very simple without unnecessery bells and whistles. Currently Bertazzoni includes a free range hood which helps. Anyone has experience with Bertazzoni range hood? I have no experience with Bosch besides the Bosch dishwasher we have and love btw. I cook and bake a lot, looked at Bosch's manual and it has some extra features like proof, but maybe that is just more parts to brake and extras that I will never use in the end. We love this range, the burners have plenty of power. 2qts of water will boil on the high-powered corner burner in about 5 minutes, even faster in a big pot on the center burner. The center burner has plenty of power for authentic stir-frying with a residential-sized wok. The oven is fantastic and the even heat has really upped our baking game. (Note that the unit I bought also had gas orifices for each burner that that were sized for propane; these orifices are much smaller than those for natural gas and I had to drill them out to achieve the approximately equivalent BTU rating for natural gas as stock natural gas orifices were not available for any source I could find. Drilling all 5 orifices required getting consulting a chart to determine the right size drill bits but only took 15 minutes.) A couple of issues we have found: there is some coupling between the air supply for the top burners and the oven, which has a very tight seal; we have found that closing the oven door abruptly when there are many burners in use can cause the smaller burners to go out. However, the auto-relighting system immediately kicks in and the spark generator will cause them to fire up again. Another issue is that the top burner grates have been designed with a pattern that is very stylish but fails to support smaller saucepans at more than the 4 closest points, so a small saucepan or frying pan has to be centered carefully or it may tip over without the outer 4 points of the grating to support it.

Ask to look at a slide in range. Most manufacturers make them. My DIL has a Bosch that she likes. The prostyle ranges Anthony mentioned are like that too. To answer what is the best range, what is your budget, what type of cooking do you do? What type of cookware do you have? How do you use your oven?
